  • Yeah I know. But I want numbers.

So better off with getting a power meter and using that for training?

  • I looked into smart rollers and got the impression they're not as accurate as the wheel isn't secured in place.

If budget can stretch to it get rollers with resistance and a power meter.

  • If you want numbers make a RPE chart and look at a digital clock. :)

A powermeter is far more versatile than a set of rollers.

  • Cheers guys. That’s cleared things up for me now. Defo know what direction to head in.

    Lovely

  • Paligap have some reconditioned Cyclops Hammer trainers on eBay with 3m warranty.

Really rate mine, massive flywheel and stability.

  • What's the best way our mounting smart phone to bars non permanently?
Glue a quarter mount turn onto the back of a cheap phone back?

  • I’ve used a cheap one of these before

  • Best: Quadlock

    Cheap: Bone Collection (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smartphones-Patented-Universal-Compatible-Motorbikes/dp/B01N4X0HUS/)

If your phone isn't waterproof then there's a few options but I'm less familiar.

If it's only for inside use, can't you just sit it on a lamp or table or something?

  • I do all my turbo outside....

  • Do you need to look at the phone?
When I ride outside I just stick mp3/phone in pocket or clip it on a sleeve as it's only for tunes.
No window sill nearby you can rest it on?
I'd still get a quadlock unless you're really sure you're never going to ride with a phone on the bike in which case that bone collection thing is pretty quick to fit/remove.

I posted links to quarter turn phone mounts in another thread recently if you want to do your idea with the case onto Garmin mount.

  • Yeah, I do trainer road through it. And it's nicer than my fire tablet that needs to be returned....
    No window sill.
Will cost up case +mount Vs bone.

  • The whole bone mount can be taken off so might be cleaner than a Garmin out-front mount. Same if you're using the standard mounts. Bone might be advantageous if you plan on changing phones any time soon - it fits different sizes whereas your custom case will probably not.

  • Food request on hippy and his non executive board memberships.

    Typo is apt.
    Should have been foi.

  • I have no idea what you're talking about.

I am sober though so that might be hindering my normal comprehension of the planet.

  • All this chat about bone phone locks made me wonder if you had shares in them.

  • Anyway.
The magnetless powrrtap speed or cadence sensor. Bluetooth. Who sells it for <£40?
Are there other Bluetooth sensors I could use for cadence?

  • If I use something and it lasts a race it's pretty decent, two races and it's basically unbreakable.
I've given the one I owned away and gone back to my Quadlock.

  • Cadence? Just count 10s worth of pedal revolutions.
You're not a noob. Does anyone give a fuck about cadence any more?

  • I like NUMBERS!

    But yeah, you're right.
I could save it and buy a new HRM as the old one is missing.

  • I have 95 cadences. Is good?

  • I think so but once you get into triple digits you'll be able to race the Tour of France

  • Anyone modified a JetFluid to take wider axles? The "fixed" side of the trainer looks like it could be removed/swapped for a shorter tube so as to allow 143mm axles...

  • Haven't used a turbo for 2/3 years, I last had a Lemond Revolution.

Am I right in thinking the new gen of smart turbos (wahoo kickr core probably) have a built in powermeter? I only has powertap hubs, and wont be using trainerroad/ swift etc
