  • Any memory of which model? Trying to track something down with speed.

  • I only ever have it on the lowest setting, the third one is like a gale, enjoy!

  • I have that one and bang it on max. It's amazingly powerful. Sometimes it dries my eyes out.

  • Do fluid turbos really offer much advantage over cheaper ones? I've managed with a TacX Sartori for 5 years. Noise isn't an issue and I'm not going Zwift. Just wondering if pedal dynamics could be improved as I'm spending a lot of time on it.

  • ...regarding the Tacx Flux, I had one, and through the half hour that I used it for it got gradually louder, and then when I actually stopped to check it out, I could hear a slight grinding noise. So it has been sent back to the retailer and then on to Tacx. I'm waiting to hear back what's going to happen regarding the warranty, since my problem was nowhere near as bad as it has been on some other people's. See the Facebook user's group facebook.com/groups/1246355348749602/ or Shane Miller's YouTube for details...

Just an update on this...my warranty claim, via Chain Reaction, was accepted. Unfortunately I don't have any details of what Tacx found when they inspected my Flux, but having read all the problems others were having with them, I'm going to try an Elite Kura instead of getting a replacement.

  • My tacx flux stopped transmitting a power reading during a zwift session last week, required a reboot for it to start working again.
Now when i turn it on it seems to require some time/restarting before it'll transmit anything, despite there being a Bluetooth connection present.
May end up with a new ticket to tacx and taking your route myself.

  • Any vortex users ever compared power data to another device? I've just hammered an ftp test and it seems a bit high to get excited about. I've got P1 pedals but my turbo bike's pedals are pretty much welded on so I can't make a direct comparison without a ton of faff

  • With the intent of providing a warning to others, my tacx flux now slips above 120w when on the downstroke with the pedal, this started after I took a brief break from pedalling at the end of an hour training session and came with a nice little burning smell.
Had another go since and was under the impression it might be ok for about 5 minutes but no such joy, slips and smells. This is the second one to have a problem in two weeks so probably best steering clear of the Flux for a while.
Was proper enjoying the nightly training session as well, got to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible.

  • It looks like a smart piece of kit for the money. Too bad it doesn't work.

  • I calibrated my vortex yesterday a few minutes into my turbo session last night and for the first time in a while erg mode worked properly. Silly me for not doing this before. Next time I'll read the manual.

  • Glad I didn't bother getting another Flux. As it happens my Kura arrived yesterday, so hopefully I'll be able to do a session on it tomorrow and provide some opinion...I need to do a MAP test to see where about my FTP should be on it - I was using virtual power before and I suspect my current mark is overly flattering!

  • Ordered a Kura myself based partly on your recommendation, should be here tomorrow with any luck. Tacx can go suck a whole bag of dicks imo now.

  • Did a quick setup ride on the Kura...shiiiit this thing has some serious resistance. Had to stay in the little ring to have a decent cadence. It's going to take a bit of getting used to!

  • Out of interest, why are people spending 700 quid on a smart trainer when you can get a fluid turbo and a power meter for roughly the same cash?

  • In my case, I needed a quieter turbo (already had a fluid turbo) which was direct drive (no wheel slippage for sprint training). Getting a power meter and cheaper direct drive trainer (Cycleops Silencer/Jetblack WhisperDrive) was an option too. I mostly do my training indoors (I actually quite enjoy it) and reserve outdoors riding for fun, so the added flexibility of having a power meter actually on the bike wasn't necessary. The Kura came to £600 after BC discount, and fulfils the criteria.

  • It's on-trend. Powermeters are so 2015.

  • Similar reasons here, I have Tacx Rollers and they're so loud I've managed to wake the babies up from the other side of patio doors. Needed something a lot quieter and the direct drive really helps achieve that.
@scs sounds pretty strong resistance, please tell me it's even possible to do 100w at 90-100rpm?

  • 100W is around 85rpm in about 34-28. I did my MAP test this morning entirely in the little ring up to 300W!

EDIT: By the end of the workout it was 90rpm in 34-25...guess that's just the fluid warming up.

  • Nice one, thank you for that time to unbox mine

  • anyone got a link to that recommended chinese HRM for a garmin that ppl are always repping? think it's an ebay number

  • ... or remember what thread people usually ask about it? I tried searching hrm etc but just got lots of FS threads
