Whats the Elite Crono like? Any lateral movement?
-
• #128
From my experience the accuracy is very good- wheel speed consistently matches the same power levels.
Of course, you need to calibrate that before you can say "20mph is 300 watts" or whatever.

Elite crono is good. Never found an issue with movement. But would never to standing sprints.
What about the graph they offer in the manual? Offers speed to power, is this irrelevant?

As a man I've never read a manual in my life, but as a favour to you I've just had a look at that one, and yep, that looks accurate- for a given value of accurate of course.
You're welcome to borrow the cross bike if you want to generate a speed/power table for your turbo when you get it.

Ha!
Might have to take you up on that kind offer. Guess i could ride the evo over and leave it with you.

Not on your list, but I bought a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and it's been brilliant. Couldn't reccommend highly enough.
+1 for the road machine. Not cheap but it's nice & smooth & built to last. Feels even smoother after I added the pro flywheel. Recently started using the Kinetic power computer on there, which causes even more pain as you attempt to raise your wattage. Gives me more stuff to look at than just my heart-rate too.
Got a maximum of 54 x 11 on the trainer bike now, so there's no way I'm running out of resistance
everany time soon. -

Cheers for this, and if i can just clarify, are you saying that this wouldn't handle standing sprints?
-
• #134
Nah it will, i just didn't do them. You will get a bit of rock though. But nothing to worry about.

I have £150 to £200 to spend on a turbo trainer. I'm looking to buy brand new. What are the serious contenders and what should I be avoiding like the plague? A couple of pointers before the serious research begins would be incredibly helpful. Ta!

There's a good deal on the Cycleops fluid 2 at the moment.

Cycleops Classic Mag Turbo or the Kurt Kinetic Cyclone.

I've just bought this one
Haven't seen any other deal come close. Think they retail for around £200 on their own usually, here you get a mat and a wheel mount chucked in too.
p.s. says they're sold out on the decathlon website so was a bit dubious, but purchased through amazon it turned up a couple of days later.

I have had a kenetic road machine for about six years. With that computer thing too. Very good, solid and stable

Fluid/wind/fuckin' magnets. Which one isn't going to fuck off the neighbours? The turbo's going to be in the hallway. Which has wooden floors. And bare walls.
I like the one BareNecessities posted as it seems like a really good deal but I also have to bow down to andyp's notorious time and dedication in the saddle. Is there a reason why you've gone for magnets/wind over fluid?

^ Hey! I've put in a few miles over the years too ;-)
Fluid is normally the quietest of the three. It also helps reduce noise if you put down a rubber mat to absorb vibration & use a trainer specific tyre.
There's quite a few youtube vids where you can hear what the trainers sound like.

^ I figured you were too busy with your shed-building skillz to actually ride bikes. :)

Just ordered one of these, apparently one of the quietest around. http://www.parker-international.co.uk/20492/Elite-Qubo-Power-Fluid-Turbo-Trainer.html

I rate the CycleOps Fluid turbos but have suffered just as much on a number of cheaper options.

Anyone used these on their floor:

How many would I need to cater for a full bike and some sweat-catching area?

How much do you sweat?

With what amount of vigor?
Apparently a turbo tyre will help, and i guess a matt would too.
It's the wheering noise it makes, wouldn't have expected that from a fluid. Never got it from my elite, which was nice and quiet, even when doing big intervals.
Oh on a note dammit, how accurate are the power curves they give in the manual, relating to speed? As you've a fancy SRM. Well 2 fancy SRMS.
