Just picked this up. Thanks for your review
Looks a good read.Thanks David.
I've just posted up another review - Michael Hutchinson's "The Hour" - it's an excellent look at both the history and the technical & physical requirements of making an attempt on the Hour time trial record. It's pretty funny too.

I've been reading this recently:
I like it very much - absolutely no plot, just a very charming account of living in the middle of the hills/mountains of mid Wales.
Also been re-reading some of this:

I'm now an expert on the financial crisis. My conclusion: We have been fucked over but not yet been truly fucked over. Yay! Sunshine and butterflies. I'm going back to burying my head in my massive collection of cycling books.

I blame Robert Peston.

Robert 'grinning bastard of the financial apocalypse' Peston?
I don't think I've ever seen a man happier than him when he's reporting something going to shit. "And here I am, standing over a field of penguins, clubbed to death by children" said with a massive smile.

If I wanted to gain a proper understanding of monetary theory what books should I read? Are there any seminal works that post date and incoporate into their analysis the 2008 financial crisis?
I don't want pop economics recommendations.

If you've started looking, then you've probably already discovered Milton Friedman's Monetary History of America, or whatever it's called. It is old but the fundamentals haven't changed a great deal.
A good way of gleaning some more contemporary references would be to listen to some podcasts. Econtalk gets all the pros. There are two about monetarism on the first page.

Surely any reading on monetary theory would have to start with Keynes?
