I'd love to roll on one of these down the road behind the Greenwich Park.

I'd like to roll it into Regent's canal.

That's after.
Someone would probably push you in anyway. -

Surely you can't lean on that thing?
And if it's electric, there will be tons of flex in those 8 spoke radial wheels...

That space-aged bike is awesome. Indulgent but awesome, like concept cars. Just because it's shaped like a bike means it'll incur the wrath of a million armchair pundits who think bikes are serious business.

That's not it at all... I just think it's crap. what annoys me is a certain attitude within the design world, not the object itself.

The fact that I just identified a separate 'design world' is hypocritical but gives an idea of exactly what I mean.

Although this particular abomination isn't hubless, the Snob's broader comments on such matters still apply
http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2010/03/jumping-through-hoops-what-does.htmlThere is a smidgeon of Dodge/Chrysler Tomahawk inspiration evident
but without the complex suspension linkages which make is possible to lean on dual-track vehicles, more clearly evident on the Piaggio MP3
or this Harley Davidson patent application
One particularly hilarious design flaw is putting all the pulling spokes on one side of the hub and all the pushing spokes on the other. Although this is vaguely feasible, it introduces a large static torsion in the hub, and worse, it pulls the rim strongly to one side as soon as you start applying power. It's not completely obvious whether they have arranged it so that the wheel track grows under power (mirror image) or whether the whole bike shifts to one side. The effect is reversed on braking, so either way there is going to be some tyre rub on the "stay" and "fork" with those tight clearances.
