A little piece of me dies every time I see or hear that word.
As for his taste in receptacles for Champagne - it's all about saucers. Especially if you've got a hooter like mine.

I got to "fenders" before realising you weren't talking about/defending the Bear!

Metal mudguards is somewhat form over function on a tourer, heavier and you really want a safety clip so you don't go over the bars if something gets jammed.
A double also isn't as suitable as a triple loaded. But I wouldn't call it anti either its just a little prettiness over function :)

Ha!
Good god

Plastic fenders rattle/snap.
Doubles/compacts are fine for touring with a 36t cassette, if I can manage the mountains in the Balkans on that configuration then nobody should have an issue.
It's a Rando bike.

Mine are fine (SKS) no rattling, no snapping.
Good on you, but I need the 32F*32R on mine loaded in the Scotland hills...
...of course it's not impossible and Audax bikes tend to have doubles rather than triples. Just wouldn't be my first choice. -

I do like SKS guards having used them previously (and have a pair for a current build) but that was the difference I found, the metal guards were quieter and more robust, not sure on weights but the Alu VO fenders aren't heavy.
Your triple setup gives about 1 1/2 less gi than my double, so not a huge difference. Always scope to fit a 38/40/42 cassette of needed. I think developments in cassette sizes mean people can reconsider traditional arrangements.
I think I would have welcomed a mtb triple and a 22 granny ring at some points but I would probably be sat still spinning up the hills now.

Yeah true you can get bigger cassettes now.
I got this as it is, I think would a build a new one I would ensure I'd had the lowest gear, lose some higher gears (as 52/11...yeah that gets used often...) and have smaller steps between cogs. (lost the 11/12/14 and have 16/17/18 not 16/18)
It's all old 9 speed and still working, I may see what I can do about cassette. It's Lee Cooper built and I love it to bits though....

He does brevets and has already done 2500k this spring>
In which case I stand corrected. He must have alot of time to ride that much and keep the bike so clean, I'm definitely jealous of that :)

if it was all black would you still be criticising it?>
The colour in itself could work, it's mainly the matching stem and chain I think look shit. No, I don't like the Talbot paint schemes I've seen, but I wouldn't post a Talbot here because they are usually forum bikes from the CP thread– I think I'd be more sympathetic toward a bike built by someone I know and possibly owned by someone I know. Probably hypocritical, yes.

Me too. It looks a mess but also great fun and very functional.

Haha it's fine, he's my housemate and I'm only taking the piss out of him. He bought it like that but it's been stripped down to the frame already
Pretty sure you don't ride a "fixie"
