That I quite agree, I seen an 70 years old man in the Lake District riding what appear to be a Planet X carbon bike with flat bar.
But at the same time, I can't help but think it would be suitable to buy a carbon hybrid, like this Sirrus whose frame look similar to their Roubaix model;
And for those who want to argue that you cannot ride as fast or efficiently with flat bars/risers that are higher than your saddle;

I still feel DFP point still stand, if set-up well, you still can keep up with other roadie...
...till there's a break in the group and end up having a big gap between you and the rider in front of you.
