i have nothing against cheap bikes whatsoever. surely if you foresee faults and are prepared for potential problems, its not dangerous anymore. surely to be a good cyclist you should be able to be a good cyclist on any quality of bicycle, safe, dangerous or anywhere in between?
i actually find crap bikes REALLY fun to ride. -

How many "good" cyclists are looking to go out and spend £140 on a baby blue fixeh?
what you say is irrelevant, imo.

The crank quality is unbelievable, the popular saying of "made of cheese" is a compliment to these, they're made of cheese that has been crumbled, eaten, spat out and mashed together.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cheese

what tf is a "good" cyclist?
- can ride bike in straight line with out falling off?
- rides bike to church on sundays?

The reason I linked it is someone at work got one, it arrived yesterday. I actually can't believe that they would sell a bike of it's quality. Its really not safe. The crank quality is unbelievable, the popular saying of "made of cheese" is a compliment to these, they're made of cheese that has been crumbled, eaten, spat out and mashed together. There is no grease on any of the parts, the cranks feel like they're glued in, the brake pads are falling apart from merely positioning them, the wheels are about as true as "insert political leader", The brake handles are flimsy to say the best. If anyone rode that fixed making it to the end of the road and stopping should be awarded with a MBE or something.
On face value from that picture, I agree (to a point) that it doesn't look to horrific minus a few things like brake lever angle and pad postions, but I really can't stress enough that in no way shape or form is this a bicycle that should be ridden. Hopefully based on this you will stop defending it (to a degree) ;-)

I'm not so much defending it as much as I am defending cheap bikes in general. You have seen it in the flesh (or should I say in the cheese) so obviously you have more experience with this particular bicycle than I do. The fact is that it's possible and in fact not very difficult at all to spend a lot more on a bike of the same low quality.
This is what happens in a lot of cases: the retailer knows it's not a great quality bike so he puts a low price tag on it, which makes the public suspicious and they will assume it's a shit bike. If on the other hand the retailer had chosen to sell the same bike for twice as much, people would suddenly see it as a viable option for a cheap beater/winter hack w/e because the price tag inspires more confidence. Imo an expensive crappy bike is worse than a cheap crappy bike.Edit: Oops I don't want to be rude, forgot the XOXO :)

The new Felt TK4130 "track bike"
Why the hell do companies feel the need to call these things track bikes? It has wood effect rims for fuck's sake.
-
• #19768
not entirely terrible... rims asside.
tubs?

To me its worse than those £100 "fixies" because at least they know that they are cheap pieces of shit. This is a cheap piece of shit masquerading as a £700 bike, which is what they were supposed to cost. Look at the crazy double spaced chainring, and the ridiculous ahead stem pretending to be a quill. It's blatant try hard. No wonder they are half price at Wiggle.

tubs?
No, Vittoria Zaffiro clinchers, and on sale for £350
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-tk4130-track-bike-2011/a price which would allow you to look past the questionable aesthetics

No, it's a £500 bike which has been blinged up to £700 in rather poor taste. There is a world of difference between a BSO badly welded together from gas pipe and a butted Cro Mo Felt

What should they call it? You might not like the aesthetics, but you could ride that on the track without changing a thing, and if you had the talent you could ride it 200m in under 12s
