  • Hey Guys

    Lee

  • what race? theres no race, you know of no race here Lee. Jedi mind trick

  • YES! it worked, back in a sec im asking for a pay rise!

  • Hey Winston,

thanks i will contact her, if i can get Pete to come to think we might have a half decent team ;-)

email is poveylee@hotmail.com, and yes Rob said you guys are trying to do something down here, would be great!!

ps hael try harder! you simple mind tricks wont work on me......

  • oh yes they will waves hand by face

  • brighton team....? how do i not know about this? or has the track club been secretly planning???

  • I would like to know that too, as I am a rider at Preston Park track and haven't heard about a team, I'm guessing it might a group that are in with Rayment Cycles by Preston Crircus, Brighton!
I should really read all the comments as I have just scrolled up and babydinotrackboy has commented that him and myself no nothing? Anyway is there still spaces for a team to enter? how many do we need??

  • I would've thought you'd be invited. Out of respect, init.

  • its rapha is sponsering will the winners ever get their prizes?

  • i'm collecting a set of rollers tomorrow so if i can get good times on them/use them, i'll race. i'll let you know how i go.

does anyone know what gear ratio they use at the races so i can use the same?

  • 44 x 14 about 82"

  • would you suggest training in a higher gear to make the actual racing a lower ratio?

  • No, I'd suggest interval training, including intervals where you go flat out for 25-30 seconds. This will replicate a 500m rolelr race, givey ourself plenty of time to recover from each 'racing interval' though.

The gearing isn't so relevent as there is little resistance in the rollers. The whole point is to reach a very fast cadence as quickly as possible and hold it for as long as you can.

  • I'd suggest riding a Brompton downhill while in second gear.

  • thanks for your help. Looking at what times have been posted, i should be aiming for low 20's yeh?

  • yep, the record is twosheds 19.8, charlie is close behind with 19.9. Anything under 21 is very fast!

  • I think 18.5 is do-able ;)

  • ^ If you can get some Belgian Speed Balls down yer neck first.

  • Cadence is approaching double what you normally ride...around 200rpm for good times......if you're training on rollers or turbo, use low gear, low resistance and just go mental.....

the best position is debatable, but one thing is clear, have your saddle at least 2cm lower than normal when roller-racing.....this helps you spin and there is no danger of your legs locking out.....leg extension is not an issue, because power is not an issue....everyone who ignored this advice in 2007 set crap times!!!!! hohoho.

  • because I'm not going to be able to measure 500 m time with my computer what should I aim for a km time?

  • Probably better to forget about distance. Just choose low gear/minimal resistance as mentioned above, then work out what speed 200rpm equates to in that gear - then ride it from a standing start for 20 to 25 seconds.

If you can hold this cadence (possibly 20rpm either side over the course of the 20 seconds) you're in with a shout :)

  • what's the easiest way to measure cadence then?

  • Slack what's the easiest way to measure cadence then?

Put a cadence cycle computer on your bike.

I know I do 90 when cruising on the road bike. And that my all-time peak on the road bike was about 250 for about 5 seconds when I was trying to get out of the way of a truck.

I think on fixed I'm spinning about 80, and would like to get it up to 90 as I find that easier and more relaxing. A smaller gear is probably my answer.

  • pushing harder is your answer.
