In an amazing move by my girlfriend's dad, I got yet another "do I really need this? Yes I do, I love technology" piece of equipment. I got the Bosch kettle that heats water to a specific temperature. I'm looking forward to making my first aeropress coffee without dangling a thermometer in the kettle.

Ended up with an Aeropress, an impress brewer, a hario grinder, pocket scale and a kilo of Strong Man coffee, all going to work with me tomorrow. Christmas caffeine fest

^^ Jealous, NH. I think this might be my next coffee purchase. Pretty sure the water will taste better having not been taken to boiling.

Missus got me the Bonavita Gooseneck 'leccy kettle for Xmas. Proper top. Felt like I got more out of a V60 than I ever have before yesterday...

Really enjoying being back on the red brick now. still my favourite blend and getting much better results than the last few from has bean.

I got this stuff for Xmas from Artisan Roast in Edinburgh and it's fucking brilliant. Really light and almost fruity with a deep caramelly body. It's rocket fuel too, proper makes me light headed after a not particularly large amount.

^same with coco di mama on london wall, shut until new year as no bankers about, had to go in harris +hoole, was charged a pound more for a cup of badly foamed milk. trying way too hard to be trendy in there.

We went the Princi rip-off place, which luckily wasn't terrible but nowhere near as nice as Coffee Works.

Should I try that Coco place if I'm nearby?

it's a pasta takeaway place first and foremost but they use climpson and sons (roasted by doktor pepe until at least very recently) and it's £2.
out of the options on london wall (cocos, h&h, caffe nero or asstd sandwich shops) it's the best of the bunch in my opinion. was originally recommended it by laner else I would never have tried it probably

Ta, I'll try and remember it if I'm down there.

Any Italian restos or clubs nearby?
As long as you're not going for that fruity 3rd wave juice, there's a chance that they'll have something drinkable. -

Using one of these in the office.
From TKMAXX for £5 (I think), easier to clean than a cafetiere and less fiddly. Keeps it warm for a long time as well.

^Mine worked really well for quite a while and then I got a bit of play in the groove the filter bit slides up and down in and it ended up getting grounds in the drink.
I use a Swissgold perma filter thing now thats done about 5 years flawlessly.

My wife got me "The Devil's Cup - A History Of The World According To Coffee" by Stewart Lee Allen for Xmas.
A fun, quick read with loads of real and mis-information. -

I did. Asked for cappucino got a latte but it was decent, nothing special but decent. I can get the same thing from a Pod which is closer and surprisingly ok for a chain.

Got my dad an Aeropress for Christmas, very impressed with it (I used it a lot).
What's the latest view on grind for these? Also, where is cheapest for them?
-
• #8899
Great thing about aeropress can do any grind depending on preference.
I tend to do slightly finer than i would for french press -

^^ possibly beware bargain prices, there were tales of fake aeropress (plural) knocking about last year.
For the sake of a few quid stick with trusted online dealer or lcs, got mine from hasbean if I was replacing would get one from North Tea Power up here.
Happy holidays coffee lovers! http://timwendelboe.no/2010/12/a-crafty-christmas/
