Yeah stovetop is also ace. More 'espresso' like in viscosity and taste.

If you want expresso, why not just get a mocha pot and a good grinder?
(By the way, I don't know much about coffee, but a grinder, mocha pot, beans and a spoon are all the items I need to make coffee)
This isn't bad advice as a Moka pot and hand grinder is a cheap setup that makes great coffee.
However, your spelling of "Espresso" makes me think you're a dickhead. -

I tend to get expressos out in the sticks in pubs trying, but utterly failing, at being a 'gastro pub'

They do may fantastic cups of chino though.

Coffee in restaurants or pubs (or generally anywhere north of Hampstead) can GTFO

Haven't tried, but i'd imagine an aeropress would make a better faux-espresso than a stovetop?
-
• #8609
Not really. It's a much 'cleaner' taste and makes a longer drink. More like a really really good americano.
If you get the grind and the timing / heat right you can get a decent crema on a stovetop brew - which you will never get on an aeropress because the filter keeps it out

Viscosity is different too

Or coffee in France, for that matter.

Ugh. Don't get me started.

From the looks of it I should go with Aeropress to begin with rather than investing time and money in a full sized machine.
Sumo repped for the info.

If you are going to get an aero press anyway, why not splash an extra tenner on a mocha pot and try both?
A French press is also so cheap that you might as well have one of those too.
-
• #8616
I could do but as dan said about the viscosity, I'd rather prefer aeropress to start off things.
-
• #8617
french press makes the worst coffee. I can't drink it any more, would rather have tea.
-

:-p
If you could kindly go put your head in a blender it would be truly appreciated.

The brew recipe for aeropress is slightly different, but if you follow that previous video to the gram then you can't go wrong.

Woah. After a while of frustrating and unsatisfying experimenting with the aeropress (Blimey!), I finally got around to using bottled water. Amazing! Fuck you London tap water!!
-
• #8623
does it make that much difference? Never tried it as I can't be arsed, but maybe it's worth a go
-
• #8624
Yes, absolutely. I was surprised, hence why its taken me so long to get around to it. But I was frustrated that I couldn't get even close to what I knew the coffee should taste like from brewing at work, when someone pointed out rather obviously the biggest difference between work/home was the water quality. (And grinders, obviously, but I'm not looking for perfection at home, just tasty!) Was recommended the Ashbeck/Tesco water, which is less than 50p for 2L, so worth a go!

I can offset the cost of bottled water with the cheaper beans i'm using. Roll on weekend.
