^ I got one of those recently and am now addicted. The poor old aeropress (former favorite coffee maker) has been spurned for the the new toy and now languishes at the back of the cupboard.

Brewtime shouldn't be more than 3 mins with a V60, and compare the cleanup to the faff of a mokaplop! Good move.

I think the reason that it seems to take longer is that I used to make coffee in a pyrex jug with tea strainer. You could pour the water and leave unattended to get on with something else whereby you need to be in attendance to trickle pour the water with a v60. Not a problem really, just an observation.

What grammage and grind are you using? I love pourover. nom nom.

huh?
The relatively high-maintenance and cleaning of an inferior coffee brewer, the stovetop/mokapot/mokaplop.

Does the MC2 produce a noticeably narrower particle size distribution than a Porlex when set to a filter grind?
Bump. Any MC2 users notice fewer fines/boulders than with a Porlex? Or would my money just be going towards the speed and convenience?

I find the MC2 quicker. I always stir grounds with a pin regardless, only using mine at espresso grind though.
-
• #8485
Obviously quicker, just wondering about the evenness of the ground particles.
Also read about the chute retaining lots of grounds... How many grams would you say you need to purge through each time?

Just got some of Monmouth's El Salvador Finca Malacara A. Nice!
They've also just got a Yirgacheffe natural in. Going to try that in a minute.

I see they've just got a new Kenyan in. I've been pretty disappointed with every Kenyan I've had this year, but need to give this a go.

Never weighed the purge, just bang it a bit to knockbem out. Some grinds clump from the chute due to static, I find it no hassle though when armed with my pin.

What are you talking about - you fuckin' rinse the thing quickly!
Am I missing something? -

Am I missing something?I think our standards differ :)
I don't always say FTW, but when I do it may very well be about the V60.
^Cheers rhb.

This wasn't for me but...
I don't stray too far from 15g/250ml, adjusting from there according to taste and time (between 2:30 and 3:00). Also I'm a stirrer; I don't think you can get an even extraction without stirring the grounds at some point.
Increasingly convinced that the Porlex creates very uneven grounds, full of fines that make all my coffee taste bitter, compared to a shop using a good grinder (albeit with better water). Hence my questioning the MC2. -

I, so far, have been happy drinking only pour overs at home and leaving the espresso to shops with their 15k synessos/slayers/etc. Over the years, though, I have gotten more and more interested in the things involved in making a good cup of espresso so I went and did the inevitable and ebayed myself a Caravel (60s era italian lever machine a la https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2687/4469576890_c18b05e8dd.jpg) I anxiously await its arrival from italy.
The rationale is, to paraphrase someone on a different forum, "with all of my scales and v60s, and grinders, there is no way my wife could think I am any more of a nerd than she already does." Also, the more that I can do to keep myself from home roasting the better it probably is for both of us and for our relationship.
At any rate, my question: does anybody know where seals*/tampers**/etc for such old machines can be purchased over here in the europes? Is there an eu version of http://www.orphanespresso.com/ ?
*I don't know for sure yet that it needs them, but I think the chances are pretty good.
** They have an odd sized filter basket so require an odd size tamper(43.5mm) so that is what I am searching for. -

Anyone want my Gaggia Classic? Could do with a clean and a descale but was working fine when I last used it. Only caveat is that one of the two allen bolts that holds the groupset in has rounded out so if you were ever to need to replace the seal you would need to find a way of extracting that bolt.
Make me an offer. Not desperate to get rid of it I just don't use it enough to justify the space it takes up, happy enough to just use my aeropress as and when I want a good cup.
Pick up only by the way, SE5

Just had an email about this: http://www.spinlcf.cc/home.aspx
Thought it might be relevant to a few people's interests.... -

You could ask Ant at Bambino Coffee in Crystal Palace, he's into the vintage stuff.

I am looking at buying a new kettle, purely for coffee. Does this take me to the next level of nerd? Or is this normal?

Only if you can get a child proof version...
Oh yeah, I actually came here to post that today I accidentally left my mocha pot to boil... Still tasted nicer than instant.
I took delivery of a V60 filter yesterday. I'm very impressed. Only downside is the fact it is quite slow to use properly which I suppose isn't a bad thing if the end product is worth it...which it is.
I can see myself using a v60 over a stovetop for a while.
