anyone bought any beans from the old man who roasts them up on delancey st, camden?
gonna be popping over that way in the next couple of days and wanted to know whether it was worth popping in and checking it out. Read a couple of articles on him and like the idea of giving some custom to a small scale local coffee business...

Important information gleaned from a coffee forum:
*
I can say that we place 9 months on our retail packs from roasting to best before. The code is roast date expressed as the Julian Date.
2348
2 = 2012
348- day of the year*
I've noticed that other manufacturers are also using this date code for the batch number. The bags of Union that I just looked at in Waitrose were around four weeks old, but given that they are gassed in the bag, I reckon they might be quite fresh. Will need to try.

i"ve never posted on the coffee thread before, some of you purists might bulk at this, but earlier in TK Maxx i bought some coffee flavoured with Tiramisu. I love Tiramisu its one of the classic desserts, champions league standard. I was intrigued what flavoured Coffee would taste like, might be the Dogs Arse!

He has a very old school italian style of roasting - Hard and long, a proper heart starter espresso but not to my taste

You'd think working over the road from the Costa roast in Lambeth would be heaven. It's not.. I don't know how the locals can stand it.. There's a foul, acrid smell to the air which can almost burn the senses..

actually i wrote coffee flavoured with Tiramisu, bit of a dick are you? -

What did you expect? You didn't ask a question or anything, and you've come to a thread about coffee saying "I've bought this coffee that's doped with something so as to not taste like coffee so much"...
Not trying to be a dick, just wondering what response you were expecting?

so you are trying to put words in my mouth, where did i say "i"ve bought this coffee that"s doped with something so as to not taste like coffee so much"... eh? come again. Firstly since when is your name withered preacher? secondly the negative response was piss poor, only a fucktard would say something negative for no reason. This coffee is made by Artisan roasters so i presume they know i thing or to about coffee. So as this is a coffee thread, i presumed i"d get some constructive feedback, not a negative grunt. You get me blood!! -
• #7468
Okay, so it's roasted by artisans who are? (I'll try and see past the negative baggage caused by the massive misuse of that word over the last 5-8 years).
Some information might help us develop a more refined opinion, but as stated, from the original information provided (not much), the response was probably to be expected. Is it whole bean or pre-ground?
How are you brewing it?
Does it have a roasted date on the pack? (so you can tell if it is stale or not)
How do you like your coffee normally? -

Its like adding an electric motor to a bike - a good craftsman can do it well, and it could be great to ride, but that doesn't mean it will go down well with the cycling crowd.
-
• #7470
i can"t be arsed to explain, i"ll stick to what i know, pro cycling threads. I should of read a bit of this thread to be honest, i like coffee alot, but some of the posts on here are from fundamentalists similar to Wine drinkers, i find it a bit anal, but respect the passion. ps i like mellow birds the most!

Easy there cowboy, coffee flavoured with Tiramisu does not turn my grinder, that is all.
I'm not sure how what I said was a misrepresentation of what you said. -

I've just tried my first bag of Hasbean's Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Wote (Natural). This is the first Yirgacheffe I've had which is up there with Monmouth's Guji Gorbiche (natural). It's seriously fruity with flavours of blueberry, dried fruit / Soreen fruit loaf and a kind of pine-needle fresheness. No sourness, but a good amount of cocoa-like acidity which cuts through milk. The roast was medium which is great as I was worried that Hasbean might have roasted it lighter as they tend to do. Brewed in the Aeropress today, and will try the espresso machine tomorrow.

I've got some tome to kill tonight around Goodge St/Russell Square, can I get a good cup of coffee anywhere close by?
No, no I don't.
I fill the milk pot to the same level each time though.
