Think I may have overdone the climpsons today. Which would explain why I'm currently having a 'break from sleeping' and looking at the Internet at 0234

Pedant : )
Anyway, it's a BN1 postcode so that's Brighton enough for me.
Wish I lived closer to it. Photos look lovely. Leafy Montpelier isn't far though. A quick cycle at worst. But the convenience of Coffee @ 33 practically downstairs is hard to beat.
I've been doing Coffee@33 quite a bit recently as I'm off work for 3 to 5 weeks after falling off my MTB. I was being stupid on the singletrack in Stanmer Park and broke my hand...
So if you see someone in there with their right hand in a cast then that's me.

Alas I'm out of the country until either mid-November or maybe early December. If you're careless enough to break anything else when I'm back, let me know.

Preparing for the espresso ride on Satuday by not drinking espresso.
Instead today's post lunch coffee was some Cup of Excellence Finca La Esperanza from Guatemala through an aeropress. -

Currys are selling a horrendous looking Logik espresso machine at half price - £40. It probably is terrible though.

am not used to filter coffee, had a wonderful Konga natural from a Kalita filter today and was nearly tripping
still not able to sleep yet, possibly not helped by two doulbe shots of the same Konga, done with different pre infusion times to tasted the difference between the preparation methods

I'm giving my rather abused laPavoni Europiccola a bit of a service. I was wondering whether one needed to grease the piston at all. I am conflicted because it seems like I ought to, and have seen it mentioned online, but don't want any chance of any grease getting in the espresso. Does anyone have a similar machine?
I have also noticed quite a limescale build up, which seems resistant to my usualy soak in tartaric acid solution. I was assuming I am just descaling the boiler, so it should be easy to rinse out and shouldn't damage any seals, would it be worth using something a bit stronger, and has anyone any recommendations.

Also, getting the temp right is probably more important. For a quicker warm up, leave it in steam mode for five minutes, then switch to boil mode and flush out the hot water for about five seconds. Then just wait for the start of another boiler cycle before brewing (element light goes out for a few seconds, then on again to indicate that target temperature has been met, and element is off).
Do you not find that when you do this that water just gushes through the coffee way too fast? If I ever make a second coffee after steaming milk ( after leaving the classic in steam mode then switching to boil mode ) the resulting coffee tastes burnt/bitter.

you need to flush out the steam and wait for the temperature to drop a bit, or you will burn the shot and have major chanelling issues as the steam forces its way through the puck of coffee
