  • That's how my gf's parents drink it. Grind into cup, hot water, stir, settle, drink.
Similar to Turkish coffee. It's ok but I pefer to be able to down the cup without having to eat part of it :)

Pfft! Add more sugar. Crunchy turkish & greek coffee is so nice

  • bombcup, that glass is 2oz.
(need to go up a level: http://www.happydonkey.co.uk/shot-glasses-coffee.html)
I only have 2-spout portafilters and don't want to buy a single one just for this so may have to do some juggling or something to get this right.

I could just buy a couple of 30ml whisky shot glasses and use them. Who's a clever cookie? ;)

You might get both streams into the glass, especially if you're getting nice gloopy slow pours. You could unscrew the spouts if poss on your machine. Or stick your finger over 1 spout.

    Sugar is wrong.

It's only gloopy for the first part of the shot and thins out (still on pre-ground).

Don't think the spouts unscrew - could block one though somehow - but, using a finger? Seriously? Psycho.. ;)

Hippy's a coffee heretic!!! May you burn in the hell of McDonalds coffee for all eternity!!!

So...do you want to part with any of your machines. :)

  • I have two machines I want to part with. You want? Specialpriceforyou

  • You going to make it to Wests this week or are you involved once again in your Bolivian marching powder powered midget-centred activities ?

  • Not sure yet, might be working, might be trashed.
I'd like to sell the two repaired machines to pay for the repairs and the grinder so if you know someone who wants a Gaggia..

  • OK. I might be interested in one of the two. We'll speak later.

  • Coolies.

  • Friend of mine has recognised my coffee-geekiness and bought me some Monin syrups.

I know for some this is sacrilege, but I thought it would be fun to give them a try. Just need to know when to use them though - do I just pour in a bit and then stir it in, or do I have to add it to the milk before frothing or what?

I know I can just do it any way, but if there's a proper way I'd rather do it like that.

And oh - that shop on eBay - coffee geek fail - they didn't even include any shots of the equipment there...

it's sure tastes ok till that last bit.
The jury is out though due to the mess caused by the grains all over the place.

add it 1st so it stirs well into the coffee.
At the end of the day is flavoured syrup so i can't see it making that much difference. I may be wrong though, just my opinion :)

  • Hippy - I'd be in the market for taking a machine off you mate. How much you looking for?

  • Hippy's His 'n' Hers setup! :D

  • got you some real proper machines there hippy.

  • guys,
I urgently need new gaskets for my Bialetti stove top. Anyone knows a place that is confirmed to hold them in stock ?. diameter : 2 3/4 '' (7cm)
Please help a Klingon in need !

  • SCP in shoreditch has spares and there's a coffee shop in Victoria that stocks them - where you based Danzel?

  • work in EC1. Shorede is practical. SCP ? Link ?

  • I'm just savouring my last shot from my bag of Monmouth. Even though it's a good few weeks old, it's infinitely better than the illy stuff I'd been using before, but then you all knew that already.

Umming and ahhing at the moment - I went for the bottomless portafilter a few months ago, and haven't looked back. I can't see myself ever using the normal two-spout portafilter again to be honest. The job I did of the original one though was a bit shoddy, and the handle for that portaflter was crap too. Shall I just take a hole-cutting drillbit to the new portafilter holder and be done with it?

While I'm at it though, I'm finding it nigh on impossible to find parts for my Gaggia Cubika - particularly a group gasket. Any ideas? Everywhere seems to sell the Gaggia group gaskets, but they don't fit the Cubika apparently.

It's making me wonder - maybe I should just start putting the pennies aside to get a Rancilio Silvia...

  • Looks good, the Hip & Herp setup, like a domesticated 2-group. You could run em both at once, one at brew setting, the other on steam setting, no mre waiting around between shot and milk.

Gaskets for Bialetti should be available in any posh kitchenware shop. Also available at Monmouth, take the old one with you for happy sizing.

Mooks, Silvias are fucking ace. I borrowed one the other weekend and the build quality is incredible for the price.
