Been having problems with coffee spraying from portafilter and have realised my Gaggia Classic was supplied with pressurised single/double baskets only which seems to be the problem.
Where could I pick up a standard double basket today in London?
edit anywhere closer to W1 than Coffee Machine Kings Road?

Have you lost the plastic crema widget that sits under the basket? Same thing happened to me, pain in the arse...

I took it out from new and it wasn't a problem until I got a new batch of ground coffee from Monmouth.
Googled around and the pressurised basket itself is the main problem, that widget is there to stop the jet of coffee being forced through the single hole spraying everywhere as it bounces off the bridge between the spouts.

Is there anything fancy I'd need to plumb in a 2 or 3 group espresso machine in my kitchen? As in - something cafe size like a Cimbali?

Exactly, I was totally confounded when it started happening... However, if I'm honest, I prefer coffee with the Gaggia widget than without...
Which reminds me, time for java... :)

My Giotto is plumbed in and I used (as recommended by the supplier) an adjustable pressure reduction valve(about £25) and a water filter (standard 10 inch filter with a scale/particle filter cartridge).
It's a joy not having to fill it up, particularly being an hx machine that you need to run lots of water through to normalise the temperature if you haven't pulled a shot for a while.

Algerian Coffee just looked at me blankly, Drury Coffee only had single shot baskets and Coffee Machine seem to have taken their phone off the hook.

Gracias. Shall have a look around to see what machines can fit in. I want something to tinker with for the main part, but also something that can serve four people a healthy dose at once. -

Camden Coffee House opposite the Sainsburys on Camden Road serve a decent shot using Hasbean, but the two newcomers to the area are arguably more exciting (if a little off the beaten path) – Caravan have just opened a sister restaurant to their Exmouth Market spot in Granary Square just north of Kings Cross and Notes have opened what looks to be a smaller scale cafe just off York Way. I haven't tried either, but as I've said before on here, I think Caravan are vastly underrated and the new Notes is about 5 minutes from my house so I'm fairly excited.

Gaggia Classic @ £150 again
a couple of weeks too early for me, still skint :(
I have an amazon.co.uk price alert on camelcamelcamel.com for when it drops below £150.01 now so hopefully it'll still be low/drop again when I get my insurance monies.

Stove top moka; better flavour, cheaper, less waste, more work.
