Why is milk foaming so poorly for me right now? I know it gets worse in winter but right now Sainsburys full fat milk is not holding air for me.

I buy the Gold stuff (cannot remember the real name, it's got "Gold" in there somewhere) from Saisbury, that seems to still be foaming well.

Very good espresso place just opened round the corner from me in crystal palace. Australian bloke with a little machine in the front of a furniture shop. Clearly knows what he's doing. Girlfreind asked for an americano and he looked at her blankly. The espresso is intense but not bitter, really short, and fucking good.

Pendleton has a Rancillio Silvia in her kitchen.
No grinder though.
You geeky cunts.

Gold top is the fullest fat milk, I'd have to buy lightweight parts if I started drinking that.
(it is the nicest milk around).

Mmmm gold top.
Drink the fattiest milk, just less often. I now treat myself to a flat white on a Friday morning only. It seems worth it - marginal gains and that ;)

76.9 kg this morning, I'll drink flat whites all weekend yo.

Just saw Gaggia Cubika Plus in Currys on TCR for £69.97, 3 units left I think and the Gaggia Accademia bean to cup machine was £700 reduced from £1300 or something.

i have to kill a few hours in central london this afternoon and there's only so much time i can spend going shopping (i.e., approx 40 mins).
can anyone suggest a decent coffee shop in the oxford circus / tottenham court road / soho area that's quiet enough to get a couple of hours of study done? basically, somewhere relatively quiet and not full of antipodeans and yummy mummys loudly yapping nonsense. would like to go to kaffeine or somewhere but it tends to be pretty noisy.

Tapped and Packed near Tottenham Court Road tends to be quite quiet. Store Street Espresso is close to there as well.

Anywhere in Soho with wifi? I've never needed it before but need to meet someone at 11 tomorrow but need to do some work fairly urgently afterwards and wont have time to go home.
I can get there early to guarantee some table space so that's not an issue, nor is noise. Just need a connection and I've lost my MiFi dongle.

They have wifi!?! That'll be just fine, ta very much.

Bit of a stretch maybe, but coffee suggestions for Stockholm? Too Much Coffee is pretty out of date these days...

I have no coffee experiences to share but I went to a bar called Pet Sounds on the Sodermalm island which did ace cocktails, had some interesting beers and played good music. Other than that I found Stockholm unbelievably dull, maybe it's better in the summer though.

Telescope Cafe in Paris is a must to visit, lovely espresso & really nice guys, onto cycling too, unsurprisingly...

it is. Stockholm is great for a spring / summer / autumn long weekend when you can just walk around and check galleries and the sea. Wouldn't want to live there though, for reasons above.

Got my aeropress t'other day, and goddam it's good. Getting through a hell of a lot of beans making endless double espressos, but I guess it's best to use them whilst they're fresh! Which leads me on to the question - is it best to use espresso beans or beans for a longer drink in one of these fine contraptions?
-
• #6023
The thing with the aeropress is, you can do all sorts of brews.

i've just been doing the brutal double espresso topped up with hot water method described in the instructions.
i guess using less coffee and more water in the actuall press makes for a more cafteriere like drink then? i've only had it a couple of days so not experimented yet

How long do you let it steep for?
I'd use more water but keep the same amount of coffee and leave less steeping time. You'll get less of the stewed flavour of a cafetiere.
