i am new to this business so I may be doing something else wrong. getting the grind right has proven almost impossible. when i bought coffee ground at the algerian coffee the coffee was great

Which grinder?
You need to measure the temp if you think it's low. What made you think so anyway?
-

That should work, to get the temp up, but in the long term I'd measure what temp you are getting and consider swapping the hot water thermostat.
if it's new, try to measure the temperature normally, if it is definitely too low, take it back. i got a digital thermometer cheap off ebay

i have a polex grinder. i the coffee sometimes is not hot. Other times it is. I don't get it. How much should the temperature be? and shall I measure the coffee or only the water. sorry for the silly question

try pouring a full shot of hot water (with the filter in the machine but no coffee in the filter - if you know what I mean) when it is up to temperature. this will warm whatever you are pouring the coffee into as well as the filter. do this before you start grinding etc. by the time you've ground your coffee and are ready to pour, throw the shot of water away and pour the coffee. depending on what you are pouring into, the vessel could take a lot of the heat away. I use a whiskey glass and the thick base would cool the coffee very quickly if I didn't pre warm it.

Tika - You need to bleed out any air in the system while the machine is warming up. Either leave the steam tap open as it warms up and close it when it starts gushing steam, or wait for the ready light to come on, then open the steam valve, close it when you get a good strong rush of steam and wait for the light to come on again.
What's happening is that trapped air in the system is making the pressurestat think the boiler is fully up to steam pressure (and therefore temperature) when it's actually compressed air opening the contacts on the pstat. This is known as false pressure.

thanks for the advice bombcup I have never opened the steam tap other than the first time when i prepared the machine. I hate milk so I thought that I didn't need to open it. I will try this.
I warmed up the cups and all that. At first I thought that the coffee was to coarse but I ground it finer and the coffee was coming like drops and took millions of seconds to pour an ounce, and it was cold so I thought that it wasn't the grind.

Perfectly brewed cup just now with aeropress and supermarket beans. Really great tasting.
But then I took a sip and was distracted by a phonecall. Completely forgot about it and now it's stone cold.

Mine.
Schweet. If it's the brew-ready bulb that's gone, I'd replace it or swap for the power switch light. It's more important in my opinion, so you can get the brew temperature as best possible.

Bolivia Finca David Vilca just arrived from HasBean. No, me neither. Smells tasty though. Will brew some up when I get home from work a 10.30. Who needs sleep?

They steal the tin as well?
Yup. I don't mind if someone wants to grab some coffee for a cup or two, it happens, but the TIN as well? BASTARDS

I have some cRabon water filters going in classifieds, could be adapted to supply sexy tasting water inline with a mains supplied machine, or just used in their normal configuration and topped up into a machine / coffee pot

I'm currently halfway through a bag of BRAZIL FAZENDA CACHOEIRA DA GRAMA BOURBON PULPED NATURAL 2012 from Has Bean. Finding it much less sour than the Jailbreak and I'm getting good shots despite my grind/dose not quite being right. I seem to go from the machine getting choked up to quick extractions (but still loads of crema) within 1 click on my porlex.
If I'm honest I wasn't blown away when I first moved from preground lavazza to freshly roasted beans but my housemate just made me a cup of the former and it's pretty crap. Bland and stale compared to even the worst cups of freshly ground that I've made.

I'm now pouring 40g per 18g of Red Brick. Tastes very good.
