  • Maybe you have imperial screw drivers and you're using them on metric screws?

  • "Imperial".. puhlease.

    This is the only Imperial...

Anyway - perhaps you just are too cack handed? You need a Scheritt for your coffee machine. A java whisperer.

  • good screwdriver is still useless on cheap screws, soft metal will always round off.

I'm not the one that rounded all the screws.

I am actually going to sick Scherrit on it. He's always been able to crack powertap covers open when I can't so he might be able to do the same on the Rancilio.

If you hold the screwdriver hard enough it should be fine. If you just use a elec drill or something and bash the screws in then you grind out the driver slots.

Yes, it can help not round some off, but experience is that the softer metal will often just give way. Was trying not to round off the adjuster screws on kids bso's canti brakes when I posted, nice Draper driver on the go but still some fails...

  • ^ should've used Park Tools

  • This is a live-blogging of my first Grind experience.

This is the real 2.0 shit.

First glimpse, I'm walking from East Putney station, it's a bit further than expected but am hoping it'll be worth it.

Walking down Lower Richmond Road. Nice area.

I forgot my glasses so can't see very far - Hope I haven't missed it on the right side of the road.

Score - it's on the left as you head West.

Exterior, it's just rained so there are lots of wet looking chairs outside. Several yummy mummy sorts pushing prams in and out.

Inside, clean, modern - but not silly, trendy music. Greeted by two of the three staff the second I walk in.

I've just ordered an espresso which comes quickly. Very nice.

Second up is a FW - just OK. Dish is chipped. Milk prep is poor and has basically turned this into a cappa. Very frothy on top with a not very viscous body. But again, the espresso is well pulled and has lovely flavour.

It's nice and certainly seems to be leagues ahead of anything else in the area. But I still think I'll be bringing my porlex and aeropress for work rather than popping down here daily. It's a good 10/15 minute walk from the office I'm using. It's much more of a lazy Sunday morning with the papers type gaff.

    Maybe I should move.

Thanks for watching, viewers - you've been great. Next week - McDonalds, Feltham.

  • cool story bro

  • where you working in East Putney gaffer?

  • Only pukes on cock "hot desking" for 3 months (potentially 15) on the road that East Putney Station is on. Upper Richmond Road perhaps?

Putney High Street is a bit naff but the general area is nice and relaxed. I'm a fan. Bet it's lovely in the summer. Like Rapha - nice but pricey?

I'm not a fan of the 50 minute cycle to get there followed by no shower in the building and a horrible sterile office to sit in for 12 hours.

The alternative of a two hour public transport ordeal which costs me money is even worse.

  • we've been out of espresso pods at work for a week now. A FUCKING WEEK!

my guts are completely shot from all the instant i'm drinking. I keep forgetting my grinder at home, and no way i'm spending a fiver a day on espresso from a shop

    must

    remember

    grinder

    tomorrow

  • just initiated two boaters to nude espresso. bought a bag for paddy the one fixing my boat. He was excited i think.

  • Claira bought me an awesome early christmas present - a grinder! I am now on my way to being a full on coffee ponce.

So my question is, after buying the beans, what's the best way to store them? In bag, in a tupperware?

  • a well sealed inert container
i use an old illy tin or a kilner (until i broke it)
i don't worry about leaving beans in the bag as they don't hang around long enough to spoil

  • ^This

    I love my Porlex. Enjoy.

  • ^^^ lucky boy. porlex ftw. she knows her grinders! next, get some decent scales. then experiment with your brew ratios and geek out.

don't worry about keeping them in a separate container. i would just keep in the coffee bag the beans came in at room temp.

  • 89.99 for a gaggia cubika plus

  • Was just about to post this myself!

Is this a good buy then or what? just reserved myself one at Currys just in case.

  • Picked one of these up in the end. Still require a lot of tweaking to get the strength right tho. I'm currently getting quite a bit of blonding, in spite of the grounds being tampered down as tight as I can get them.

  • change the grind then and back off the tamp
