  • ^yep, especially when it's being moved about. Even if you sperate the grinds from the liquor the fines suspended in the brew will keep extracting to give you a horribly stewed cup. Paper filter is better for storing coffee in a flask

  • Wouldn't it just be best for carrying the warm water in then add the coffee when you fancy a coffee.

  • i've just found out that my girlfriend has got me this for Christmas:

    wick.

    wick.

    That is a cool present.

However it is only one (admittedly fantastic) 350g bag a month - won't last long.

    I've got this:

    https://www.hasbean.co.uk/products/In-My-Mug-Subscription-Pack-%252d-12-Months-%2852-Weeks%29.html

    A bit more ££££££££ but a 250g bag a week.

I'm thinking of getting the Square Mile subscription as well, every time I've bought some coffee from them it has been superb

  • Yeah, I cant fault it. Even with good beans someone could make a shit espresso but each time i have SqM its perfect.

I'm making a map on my google account of every place i find that serves it. Lame / Awesome.

  • I've got some La Loma at the moment, just brewing using an aeropress and it is stunning. Thinking of investing in a V60 at some point, however not sure how much different from the aeropress brew it would be

  • bollocks. run out of coffee again. too busy to go and get some tomorrow and can't bring myself to buy illy in sainsburys.
    i'm missing my fix.

  • I took the Bezzera apart today, to inspect/clean the 3-way valve.

It didn't fix the problem. But I did find a hole in my drip tray.

  • Did you replace the seals?

  • Nope. I don't know what they're supposed to look like so assumed these were ok.

  • Fair enough, normally best practice would be to replace them all when rebuilding.

I used to service the water pumps in the orchard out in Malta, and new seals would turn a pump with serious prostate issues into a healthy and happy pump in no time.

  • Normally best practice in my world is to find the problem before "fixing" it.
    I don't have £50 solenoids laying around.

  • Who was talking about solenoids?

I was talking about the £0.03 seals that often look fine but leak like bastards under pressure.

  • I was never intending to replace the seals (I'm not even sure you can buy them).
I was intending the replace the whole 3-way unit.
I wanted to see if there was anything obviously wrong with it first.

  • Is it definitely FUBAR'd?

If it is leaking maybe new seals would make fix for cheap?

  • Not sure, hence the strip down to see if there was anything obvious that might cause the leak.

The seals are not shown on the schematic, only the whole valve/sol unit.
I think I will just get another 3 way valve and install it and see what happens. I also need a new drip tray - I found a hole in my which is contributing to the wet kitchen top.

  • Hip, posted on TMC. Can the drip tray be bodged - chemical metal, putty, duct tape?

  • Yeah certainly, but I'd like to replace it if I can.

  • can anyone recommend me a decent coffee place in manchester city centre?

I'd like this question to be resolved before I am next up in Manchester please!

I quite liked the coffee shop on the station approach for Oxford Road station. I can't remember the name though. It's in the same building as the cornerhouse cinema

  • Nice^

  • £5000 new though. Something tells me it'll go for a bit more than I'm prepared to pay :)

Yeah, I've drunk coffee there - it's nice. Name escapes me too.

  • Just popped into the new Notes coffee, cafe and music shop on St Martins Lane, which opened yesterday. Really amazing inside, and the coffee bar is something special in itself.

Its run by Fabio from Flat Coffee Cart on Strutton Ground, so really good espresso as always. I tried the HasBean Kicker blend today, which has strong notes of Lemon.

Worth checking out if you are near Trafalgar square / Covent Garden.
