Who does a cheap kilo of specialty/light roasted coffee? For cold brew/filter
-
• #25029
Yellow Bourbon? Their Colombian isn't too pricey, comes in a kilo and is great for filter.
-
• #25030
Dark arts usually have well priced beans if not yellow bourbon

Coffeelink are quite consistent. Always got offers on.

As well as forum preferred YB or James gourmet of course, had a couple of banging coffees from Triple Co Roast in Bristol recently and was very pleasantly surprised by their prices for kilo bags when I went to chdck their website. Would definitely recommend, and you can get an additional 10% off first order.

Yep!

Triple roast co are great. Wogans do some nice light roasts too if you’re looking for something more affordable without the wow factor. They’re my go to daily beans as I ride past their place on my way to work
-
• #25035
Oh that is very well priced at 1kg especially with the 10% off which seems like a generic code

I've been making my way through a couple bags from Triple Roast Co too, first time trying them, very nice.
Kiss the hippo is still doing the £10 off first order referral thing if you or anyone else didn't use the link last time I posted - https://prz.io/RPNEZ8bij
Origin do a good price - £27.55 for 1kg of Beija Flor, which is a really tasty natural Brazilian coffee. That's my go to for an easy drinker for filter https://www.origincoffee.co.uk/products/beija-flor

Don’t forget your DOASKID discount code for 20% off at checkout [says beneficiary of Yellow Bourbon revenues]

I don't mind Rave coffee for sub £30/kg med and light roasted coffee. It's interesting and tasty enough.

Obviously YB and DA are my preference

Good insight into what people expect to pay for coffee this. I genuinely pay very little attention to what everyone else is doing. I put the prices up earlier this year and was surprised at the lack of pushback.
I deliberately keep my inventory reasonably priced and don’t chase the latest massive flavour sensation as that’s a small market which is well catered for. I do buy a 1 bag wonder each month so there’s always something new and a bit more daring on the rota. My personal preference is for elegant, subtle, fully developed washed coffees and other processes that reflect the traditions of their region - and those coffees are pretty affordable relative to the very experimental whopping great big experience types.
My biggest outlet for beans by far is over the counter in the shop and the big volume coffees other than espresso blend are the Brasil and Colombia. I put a geisha on at £18/250g and it hung around, I found the ceiling for my pricing there.

I think most of the prices posted above, particularly what I posted from Origin is def the low low end for 1kg. I'd expect to and do pay much more normally, £12 for 250g probably the average but it's good to have a cheaper option for the times when being a little more frugal is needed.

I get 1kg of beans from Django every month. £21.50 delivered and they have 30% off codes emailed quite regularly which makes it £15.50. Great roastery, v good for lighter roasts.

Django ... Great roastery
I just wish they'd use 250g sized bags for their 250g sales. Kilo bags in use all around.

I have a Wilfa grinder (less than a year old) that is stopping/starting when grinding, which a quick web search says may be a power supply issue. Has anyone ever managed to create a support account on the Wilfa.no site? (captcha showing nothing, reset password says ‘forbidden’, maybe it’s a trade thing and a shut out for civilians like me)?
Annoying that my ten quid coffee bean blitzer is a better bet than this Wilfa doorstop at the moment… -

Can't speak from first hand experience but I own a second hand wilfa Svart and bought a couple of faulty ones to repair to no avail.
In my experience from reading around on coffeeforums.co.uk, rest assured Wilfa will definitely swap it out as your issue is a known problem as far as I gather. Let me know how you get on with their support!
I use my Wilfa for pourover and it's cracking for the money.

• #25047
Ah thanks, much appreciated... I've located the Wilfa UK site and sent a message about the problem. Let's see!
-
• #25048
I had the same and ended up giving up as it was out of warranty so Wilfa wouldn't help. I've still got it as I've not worked out how to dispose of it yet.

Oof. I saw a suggestion to repair the power board (one cheap cap needs to be replaced, according to the person who fixed their s/h grinder). Not exactly straightforward, but doable if you can be bothered.

So have had a bit of a hankering for a bit more order and have an organiser that holds pre weighed beans, and all the things I use and I couldn’t find quite what I wanted, so set about making this which involves buying some fairly substantial drill bits, pretty happy with the result though!
Needs some oil and could do with the portafilter holder being another couple of mm deeper as well but these can all be worked on!

Yeah I think that's pretty much the same thing I saw (only with a wooden post/plank instead). Definitely seems like the most robust method, though I'm currently lacking a vice (outside of coffee, that is).
