  • It's often very good, sometimes ok. I think, from looking at how the pour forms by squinting up at bottomless portafilter, that I have an issue with channeling. But I'm not sure.

It may also be the case that grinding at different speeds with my hand grinder is introducing a variable that I'm largely unaware of.

  • I'm going to see what the larger to the two baskets is like today. The app based scheduling is fun, I like the machine waking up when my alarm goes off, then turning off an hour later so I can't forget.

  • you can just turn my sage bambino plus on seconds before you want to make a coffee and everything about it is just mid enough that it doesn't matter. ha.

  • Please excuse my mucky socket…

  • My current batch of Aeropress filters are ever so slightly smaller than normal. That means they don’t stay in place when they’re put in the top, which makes doing an inverted brew a bit annoying. Also means if you press too hard it squirts coffee out the sides. Which is REALLY annoying. Oh well, only another 330 or so get through.

  • Email and complain? Surely worth it to avoid 330 annoying coffees.

  • If you wet the paper does it not stick?

  • Looks great but don’t think I realised how deep they are - not sure it will would in my coffee cupboard 🥺

I’ve had them too long unfortunately. I got a replacement Aeropress from work when my one went missing during a refit over lockdown. I’ve only just started the filters that came with it.

If you wet the paper does it not stick?

Good idea, I’ll try that 👍

  • Any interest in Brita Style filter. It’s the bigger version that takes 3.6l of water.

    Just don’t use it enough.

Comes with PHOX filter cartridge, but needs new refill.

Some scratches on the outside of the jug from moving houses.

    £15 collected in London?

  • Are those Phox filters any good? Seen a few ads for them recently. Still got a year's worth of Brita filters kicking about but considering moving to them after

  • I'm using one and bought a years worth. Not going to lie it's a bit of a faff to replace in comparison to just popping in a new Brita one. I'd say try it for a few months package and see what you thinking before committing.

  • I use one for coffee water.
    It's a small faff every 45 days...

  • I have a small pool of water left on top of the puck when I remove the portafilter, which I can’t say I’m a fan of. My old machine produced very dry pucks. What changes could I make to stop having a watery mess to deal with?

  • Adjust the amount of fiber in your diet.

  • Smaller basket or higher dose

  • Or if the shot tastes good, put up with it

  • put up with it

    Haven't met dammit, have you?

  • Jesus Neil, I hadn’t noticed that you’d got the LM. You big mad bastard! Congratulations :)

I’ve been using my Niche Zero for a few months now and it’s been absolutely flawless.
Does this mean that you’ll have both the conical and flat burr machines to compare side by side once the Zero has completed it it’s sea journey? Be interesting to hear what differences yous find, if any!

Interesting about the slightly wet pucks. My 17 year old Gaggia Baby Class D produced almost bone dry pucks but my new Lelit Elizabeth annoyingly always seems to have slightly wet pucks.
But it’s making incredible coffee so I don’t really want to fuck about it with any more.

I wouldn't mess with it if the coffee is tasting good. Dry vs wet pucks are always a factor of headspace between the puck and shower screen in my experience, and has no impact or is any indicator of the coffee itself.

  • Yeah I’m not going mess about it with it. They aren’t exactly soaking, just not bone dry like my old machine.
There’s some guy called Dave who seems to be prominent on all the UK coffee forums, he seems to be a a fountain of knowledge with Lelit machines. Mine has an advanced settings menu that can have all sorts of parameters changed that I simply don’t understand. This Dave chap has published how he thinks they should be set, from what I’ve read, it seems it could rectified slightly wet pucks but I don’t even understand exactly what I’d be changing and what the effects/trade offs would be.

As sad as it is, my flat white ritual in the morning is the best part of my day. I can’t risk change.

  • As @Bainbridge too much head space. Bigger dose and coarser grind or smaller basket.

  • Thanks everyone
