yellow bourbon espresso blend = £7.00 / 250g bag or £19 / 1kg bag
square mile red brick espresso blend = £12.00 / 350g bag or £34 / 1kg bag
That's quite a bit more.
square mile sweetshop seasonal espresso blend (which is really nice) is a whopping £45 for 1kg.

I descaled my gaggia classic yesterday and the crema has disappeared. The coffee tastes completely different. I have noticed that the time to complete the shot is slower so do I need to go finer on the grind?

Stumbled across the James Hoffmann subreddit. Lots of people posting pictures of their coffee bed/used filters, with a gear description.
What the actual fuck is wrong with Reddit and why do they make everything awful? -
• #23157
People in general are awful. I'm always surprised by the amount of people I see on IG unironically making some awful coffee thing full of syprup and chocolate while using thousands of dollars of top end equipment. You'd think someone who spent that much would have some taste, but no.

Reddit is particularly bizarre in my experience. The cast iron subreddit where they’re obsessed with getting it perfectly non-stick but then they can’t cook for shit (evidenced in their awful omelette videos), or the knife sharpening fetishists that also can’t cook. It’s just all so fucking strange. It seems the whole site seems to somehow create these weird communities with the strangest posting habits.

Ha, I’m aware of the irony, but I stand by my point.

Assuming that you scrubbed off all that crud from the shower screen until you could see through all the holes again. Did you take the distribution puck off as well as the shower screen? If you only descaled but didn't take the distribution puck off, there's a good chance a load of scale got flushed into the top of it and it's blocking it up, or blocking the hole that comes out the boiler into it. It'll be worth taking it off and inspecting. Check that hole isn't blocked anyway. You might need to poke it through with a needle, cocktail stick, small allen key etc.

Thanks for the advice will give it a try.

I think it's the case with any hobby really. You'll always have people who seem to take more joy in the products used or the process followed than the actual result. I've gotten into music production over the past few years and I'd say 95% of the stuff that people post about is "Hey I just bought a new x", as opposed to "Hey I just made this". I do game development stuff as a hobby which in fairness is a bit better in terms of showing actual results, but there's still a huge amount of x engine/framework/language is better than y shite that goes on instead of actually talking about the design/development side of things.
Though on the cast iron thing, this channel's recently launched which is pretty interesting IMO (their other channels are usually about less "everyday" science chat): https://youtu.be/3bZVk0LpilM

Yes. It might be a bit stuck on with coffee residue if it hasn't been off before.

• #23168
It was a bit brown but no scale to speak of

Looks and smells nasty
It’s taking a long time for any coffee to come out after I’ve pressed the button. Like 10 seconds before any drips

Maybe the descaling has dislodged something inside and it's now blocking a tube. Like a limescale kidney stone.
-
• #23171
I was gonna say, it doesn't look too scaly but there's a lot of coffee in there.
If you don't have a blind basket and some puly caff, I'd recommend getting them and backflushing monthly to clear everything out.
-
• #23172
Do anybody have contact to admissions of coffeeforums.co.uk ?? ;)
-
• #23173
Anyway I could “create” a blind basket. Maybe put a piece of thick plastic in there

I'm staying at my mum's tonight, and heading out early doors.
There are zero coffee places near, and she has no coffee at hers.
Is buying a load of espresso at Costa and putting in a Thermos for tomorrow morning completely gross?
-
• #23175
Is Costa the only coffee place available?
Cafe hermozi 1kg is generally £13-£21
