  • After losing the urge for coffee for a while it is back with a vengeance. Moving in to a place with induction, so the old Moka does not work. Got myself a V60 and some coffee from Presto. My cheap Krups electric grinder is still in storage, and anyway am on the lookout in the usual places for a decent used hand grinder as a housewarming present to myself.

So if anyone has one and wants to unload for a fair price hassle free deal please shout. Mods - I am new here so if I should not say this, sorry, please remove.

Many thanks for the excellent read on this thread.

  • That's good to know for my next order!

  • Use the link from @tyeness to get yourself a good grinder and a Robot!

Let me know what you think. I'm really quite fond of it.

  • My mum wants to get a coffee set up and she is fixed on getting a machine with a grinder. The choice is down to Sage Barista express vs Delonghi la Specialista. Any thoughts/experience of these?

  • The sage stuff always seems well reviewed

  • Gaggia MDF for £30 if anyone is looking for a grinder:

  • I like my sage barista express, do feel like I am running it to its limit (grinder + portafilter (pf)/pressure) trying to achieve genuine espresso. Suspect it would give very drinkable results with the included pressurised pf. I found the milk steaming easy to get the hang of. The grinder is a bit messy grinding into the pf so a 3d printed/similar dosing funnel actually very useful. I also single dose the grinder as output weight was a bit variable, see again comment about running it close to the limit.

Very neat package, only one plug etc. I bought from Lakeland you may wish to do also as mine malfunctioned (suspect power supply tripping electrics) 1 month after the 2 yr manufacturer warranty but within the 3yr Lakeland guarantee so got replaced easily for free.

  • Bloody hell the clever dripper is an absolute game changer.

  • @Nef - I love mine it's basically eclipsed my v60 unless I have guests

Are you doing the water first method?

  • What's so good?

  • -Waitrose Ueshima Fuji Mountain £4/250g

    Forum bros in apples,
    Forum bros in coffee!
My eye was caught by the distinctively Japanese graphics of the packaging.
Repeat buys caused by the taste when used as Americano
with a drop of Morrisons own brand Oat milk.

  • Water first, 2 minute steep, using about 16g/250g ratio
    Grinding same as a 2 cup v60.

    @umop3pisdn
Results are fantastic. You manage to get more body but in a balanced way.
I’d been struggling with v60 as to get a slow enough draw down on a single cup I’d have to grind finer, and the cup goes muddy and you lose the more delicate flavours. With the clever it makes a cup that’s fuller, but fuller of all the flavours I wanted, without it just going muddy and bitter (which obliterates the nicer notes).

Sorry - I’m crap as describing coffee, so that might not make loads of sense, but other than for travel where I really have to pack minimally, I’d deffo go clever over v60.

  • Bought it, love it. Thanks for the recommendation! Much easier to get a good espresso out of it than a full decaf.

  • Glad to hear it worked! Which did you buy out of interest?

I think low caf is a very promising area.

  • I also got a Clever Dripper recently having used a V60 every day for years, and you're right, it's better. Sort of unbelievable. I'm doing water first / 18g, 300ml, 2 mins and get lovely delicious results every time.

  • OK, I've bought one

  • I seriously regret giving my clever dripper away. And I'm a stubborn fucker who doesn't like to buy something twice.

  • Just to counterpoint I never got on with the CD and gave it to a friend (who likes it). I do think it should work well in principle though. I just always got inconsistent draw downs with it which drove me insane.

  • Shoplift one.

Have you considered a career as a consultant?

  • Yes, that'll be £720 plus VAT.

  • Perfect Xmas or birthday present request

  • Now on the YB Granja La Esparanza Colombia, thanks to those who recommended it.
