Probably easier to give them a simple recipe and then get them to adjust one parameter at a time.

Any recommendations for ground decaf coffee and an online supplier? I usually use a Clever Dripper with Filtropa filters or sometimes an Aeropress.

My wife really enjoyed our @StevePeel 's decaf at YB when she was pregnant.

If anyone's interested in Sage coffee machines, I've got a discount code for 20% off anything on the Sage appliances website. It's a promo during the online London Coffee Festival which starts on 16th April. I think the code is active from the start of the show.
Promo code:
LondonCoffeeFestivalVirtual-v89Z2sJP
This will offer 20% off entire basket value at http://www.sageappliances.co.uk and be valid until 1st of May.
I take it almost everything was already sold out because I checked the link when you posted this and there wasn't much available. It's still the case this week :(

any tips for dialling in decaf espresso? I imagine the water process affects the flow rate somehow

Stick a shot through as normal, it will probably run fast. Adjust grind, check you’ve still got the same dose, repeat until you’re getting your preferred yield in 25-35 seconds. If it’s sour dose lower and grind finer, if it’s bitter dose higher and grind coarser. Remember it’s not going to taste as complex or balanced as regular coffee.

I grind finer but for some reason have found that over time the need for this lessens and I can grind to the same fineness as a regular beans. I’m working from 1kg bags and 36g per day.

And that’s drinking with milk so I’m not quite as fussy as when I’m making espressos

YB is great as espresso.
Will make a filter this afternoon and report back -

Thanks, I'll give the Yellow Bourbon a try. I'm wondering which grind to order for the Clever Dripper as it is a filter + immersion method: filter, aeropress or cafetiere?

Call the shop and ask them :)

Well, this solved my issue of having to give my neighbour an Aeropress recipe!

This is a super interesting development, the main issue with coffee and climate change is that Arabica is not exactly hardy, unlike robusta.
So if there is a variety that combines the hardiness of robusta with the flavour potential of Arabica, this can only be a good thing.
The issue will be what happens next, will this become stock for new hybrids and crosses of arabica (which is itself a natural cross) as has been done on numerous occasions between robusta and arabica, or will the plan be to replace arabica with stenopylla? I doubt it’s the latter, and imagine that in the short term it’s the former.
Either way it will be a fair few years until we see stenophylla available for general sale that is of good quality, that’s assuming that Sierra Leone allow it to leave the country.

We have a belter of a decaf on at FCP. http://Www.fcp.coffee

Best option for 1kg for espresso ?

The Mexican is bloody good as an espresso, really balanced. The la Batea -Villamaria natural Colombian if you fancy something fruity forward, Bumbogo Rwandan if deeper acidity and spices is your bag.

Could Sierra Leone license it out to other countries/companies? It could generate a lot of money for them I guess.

Thanks for the suggestion.

its tricky ground, once it gets out of the country there is no way to stop it being passed on

Are there any good camping v60/filter drippers? Trying to sort my #coffeeoutside #rig and a v60 is too much bag real estate.
-
• #20973
I'm sure snowpeak do a folding dripper? Think the usual solution is a hand grinder that fits inside an aeropress.

I have the GSI ultralight java drip and don't rate it that highly. Getting the grind/pour right is tricky and I often end up very weak brews from it.
A friend has this which works well as you can play with the immersion time to compensate for different grinds.

Trying to debug other people's bad aeropress recipes is a nightmare. Just leave them to it. They'll figure it out eventually.
