Yes the metal filters are much better, unless you really like paper.
I made the mistake of getting one for work which gets binned and never replaced. "That cost a tenner!?", yes mate.

Thanks for your suggestions on how to clean the kettle I left on the hob. Ended up using Barkeeper's Friend, cleaned up a treat!

Anyone got any referral offers for a coffee subscription that's not PACT. Getting a bit bored of what appears to be the same beans every few weeks.

No referrals but a list that are good: Square Mile, Yellow Bourbon, Dark Arts, Workshop

Check out Dog and Hat. Just trying their sub for the first time this month and I'm impressed.

Funny you mention dog and hat, I've just signed up for a 2*250g filter subscription from them. Not has my first lot yet though.

Is there any reason why Monmouth's mail order doesn't get much love in this thread? While I tend towards Yellow Bourbon for most of our coffee, Monmouth often has some real treats on offer imho.

Monmouth is the Brewdog of 3rd wave coffee except maybe less memorable

Wot no Hasbean?
-
• #20411
Not being deliberately obtuse here but you're going to have to explain what Brewdog and 3rd wave means 😂
I mean, I know Brewdog make meh beer...are you saying that Monmouth sell meh coffee?
What does 3rd wave mean?

Steve, the founder of Hasbean, has left the company. I think another coffee company bought the majority stake year or so ago. Will be interesting to see how it does but without him Hasbean doesn't feel like the same company IMO.

Whoop. Every day is a school day

Blimey. Steve was Hasbean. I'll go do some catching up.

Recommendation for a FCP subscription:
https://www.fcp.coffee/subscriptionsI have been drinking various espresso roasts from @Matisse since FCP started roasting. They are very good.

Fuck yeah. I can't listen to the guy on the YouTube
announcement. So un-Hasbean.https://sprudge.com/breaking-ozone-coffee-roasters-acquires-has-bean-coffee-134449.html
I hope Steve either starts something new & exciting, or enjoys a happy retirement or alternative.

3rd wave is modern, non-italian, coffee that came over from Aus early 00's, lighter roasts, enjoying a flat white rather than necking an espresso etc.
Monmouth is fine, just fine, unoffensive, unmemorable. If you drink any of their stuff with milk you won't really taste it. The Coldplay of coffee. Entry level.

LOL, thats me put in my place. I love their coffee even if I do mainly buy from YB. I had no idea that Monmouth Coffee was considered entry level. Thats kind of how I feel about Pact now days.

Thanks for the advice on an appropriate office machine. We had quite limited supplier options so couldn't get the most sensible option of a good filter machine, so with a decent budget we went with the Sage Oracle, thinking it would still be easy for non-coffee people to use, just look a bit intimidating.
We overestimated a couple of our colleagues.
The grind is activated by rotating the PF in the grinder socket a little against a sprung switch. The first person to try it slapped it hard right and jumped backwards, like she was using a slingslot. It pinged back and almost fell out completely.
Later I walked past and another person had one cup under the left spout of the PF only, letting the other spout pour into the drip tray. Someone else later walked up to me with a pitcher full of milk and asked if they pour it in the top of the machine.
They all seem to like it though, which is good.

I'm the only one in this thread who likes Monmouth espresso blend. I'm happy for it to stay that way, thankyou.

Can't believe you drink Monmouth, coffee n00b!
Haha, good tips.
Will have a look at that koffi one. Although I didn't realise the aeropress ones are compostable, I just assumed they had plastic in for some reason.
Thanks.
