  • I'm sure you would.. Give it a go!

  • If not ask for a cafe con leche condensada.

  • That's the one!! That's what is was called in Lanzarote!

  • nah, just don't over do it. i'm on 3 cups a day steady. 9.30am, 2pm and 4.30pm. I seriously get a headache 5 mins past those hours if I don't get coffee. But not on weekends, which is quite weird. Does my addiction(?) know what day of the week it is?

This basically proves the headache has nothing to do with coffee and in fact your job is the problem.

    This.

  • This.

bugger. but I like it here?

  • Bam! My zassenhaus arrived, the germans sure know how to work the postal system.

    Gotta get some beans!

  • ok, first cup done, blardy hell it's nice!

got beans at whitecross market today, from square mile coffee roasters. Called Progreso Huila. Loadsa waffle on the bag but fuck me it's nice

How do people heat the bialetti stovetop btw? Full whack straight through, or slower on lower heat? got an electric stove, doing it on full power, turns out allright i think

Also, just to check, the grind should be a tad coarser than espresso right?

  • Me? Slower lower heat.

  • what about the bubbling at the end, is that cause it's too hot?

I usually take it off right before, it tends to ruin the coffee somewhat

(did I answer my own question there?) ((3rd cup here now, bzzzzt))

  • 3 cups? Now? Whoa Kboy..

But you did answer your own question. Bubbling is just the end of the brew. But this is just my opinion of course

  • if you can catch it mid-brew and remove it from the stove, the latent heat will usually finish the brew

This has been my daily routine for ages, Heat it at about number six; don't blast it. When using gas, you don't want the flame to be wider than the base.

I usually remove from heat before it starts to bubble, that way, you get some crema.

As for the grind: espresso grind works fine but ideally, you want it slightly more coarse.

  • Do you think there's much difference in flavour from the brewing of a cafetiere compared with the steam/pressure of a stovetop?

i do both regularly and there is a huge difference. stove top is a stonger more robust coffee. Pressed always seems a little less whatever to me, but easier drinking, more relaxing. I've also noticed more of the oils get pulled through with the stove top.

oh yea, always drink it black.

  • I put boiling water, not cold, into the base of the stovetop [use a teatowel to screw the base on] then a medium flame, as soon as it starts bubbling, give it 60 seconds more on the heat then take it off and let it do it's thing -

I know it sounds poncey but you get a much smoother brew because the heat hasn't been on the beans for so long

  • Un-orthodox but sounds like it could work. Will give it a try in the morning.

  • There's a good vid about stove top brews. What bdw said with the pre-heat basically.

  • Its been a fair while since i picked up the post from this thread, and amongst some good reading - i want one of those siphon/torch/vaccuum pod jobs (from a few pages back)

Thats a ritual i would like to perform....

I love this thread. And Bomcup, you never ever cease to be an absolute fucking revelation.

    I thank you...

    ^This!

My granddad has done this for +65 years, if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me.

  • @ Brave - Hows the grinder working out?
