Dropped the outer burr from my Hario Slim and it's obviously shattered. Struggling to find a replacement- are they available or is it upgrade time? It's only about 6 months old so it seems very wasteful to not repair it.

I've got a spare hario grinder if you want to use it for parts. You can have it for the cost of postage ...

So this was a test I did this morning - 15 - 17 and 19g (19g is at the top)
I think you can see the diff in colour and crema that this makes

Hahaha - still very enjoyable. In fact it didn’t even taste any different I don’t think. Just harder to press the arms.

Yah, just enjoyed my morning cup, with a gram or two less to compensate for the hard pull.

Further to this: Our winter humidity goes up, but our INDOOR humidity plummets due the huge difference in temps from outdoors to inside, as much as 60º C come January. Our forced air system turns our house into a desert come winter.

92 degrees coffee offering 50% off subscriptions this weekend. 1kg bag for around £13 which seems good
Brian coffee spot seem to rate the place too, so even those this is a blind buy I can always cancel.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I managed to get something that tasted OK yesterday and it looked to have an OK colour and crema too, still at 14g. I'll share later if I manage to repeat it.

I found it useless. If you are in London you are welcome to take it for free you'll need to order filters though.

Nae bad considering it was using my Hario Slim.
Amusingly, the decaf one I made for my wife with the exact same process was completely useless in comparison.

Anyone used the Wilfa Classic+ for filter? I've lent my Moccamaster to a mate who needs it for his new business, so I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative. It seems decent, and for ~€120 worth a shot, but if anyone knows of an alternative I'm all ears. I've got an aeropress but my girlfriend and I drink a lot of filter coffee (two mates are roasters) so the aeropress isn't really ideal.

Started to read through the last 4 months of comments (since I was last on this thread) but didn't get very far.... Just got myself a Rok EspressoGC and Knock Feld47 to replace my old cheaper grinder and Moka pot. Present to myself after a long year setting up the business. Not the most vintage year for starting a business... Grinder hasn't arrived yet however so far very please with the Rok. Even with basic 1:2.5 at 18g with 15secs pre infusion and around 28 secs dose time I'm pleased with the results. Saw someone talking about struggling to get a decent crema, I'm going to try a naked portafilter and see if that helps with crema.

@Tenderloin - Had a bad day with it yesterday and gave up after choking the machine 3 consecutive times.
Today is better, at 14.5g and something that tasted OK, maybe even borderline good!

I wondered about this so I did a bit of work with my thermometer and glass hario switch.
I closed the valve so no water could get out and filled the entire thing with boiling water with a thermometer inside, the max temp the thermom read (after about 45 seconds) was 77 degrees, it then started going down. I dumped that water and refilled it with more boiling water, the highest that got was 84.
So if you're trying to maintain 92 degrees or so, I would say that you would be there for a while if you're just running water over the ceramic.
Whether you'd find this drop in temp affected flavour or not is another thing entirely... but this is the kind of thing people on the sharp end of stuff worry about and why they do things like develop insulated drippers, lids, cozies for their drippers, etc.

choking the machine 3 consecutive times.
So it's really easy to choke the machine I have. Perforating the puck with a skewer makes a MASSIVE difference. I don't know if this is sacrilege, but it has given me the best shots yet for sure as I can grind fine enough and use a reasonable dose (16g, anything more and the machine isn't happy at all/takes 45seconds to pour a shot, if at all).
