one full basket, squashed with the supplied tamper/spoon, which is then about half a basket.
I take a scientific approach

Definitely a good idea to get a set of scales (£5/10 'jewellers scales' will do the job nicely). I've recently been playing around with roasting at home and the amount of space taken up between light and dark roasts of the same mass is pretty significant. You'll see a similar difference when changing the fineness of the grind.

Anyone got a ROK or flair non-electric espresso machine?
Also need to get a hand grinder for espresso, suggestions?
-
• #18630
i have a ROK (current discussion is why cant i get crema from the coffee i pull)
The coffee is nice, but not quite espresso (probably more me, than the machine) I got a new one from ebay for £100
Fine hand grinder, out of my zone of terror, someone will weigh in soon enough i reckon.

suggestions
I’d suggest not hand grinding for espresso tbh. More expensive hand grinders probably do the job alright, but they’ll be in the same ballpark price as a decent enough second hand powered grinder. Failing that, put a drill on a hario grinder (my current set up as I wait for spares for my MC2).

I’ve found that grind and dose both need to be done fairly accurately to get any kind of control. Might be a starting point.

I use a Handpresso when I can't be bothered turning the machine on or for espresso martinis and travel.

Cheers. I saw someone say they didnt really get crema either

I ask not because I want to, but because 12V grinders arent a thing... or are they?
For my camper. I have a eureka mignon at home. -

Is it good?

Get an inverter? Maplins used to sell them.

Thanks, you can PayPal me the cash ;)
Proper inverters are not cheap, and I'm not spending out for one.

Cool, have fun hand grinding.

No problem with dark roasts.

Is the price of the Robot putting you off?
-
• #18643
It's not as good as my machine but it's good enough. I've nothing else portable to compare it with though.

There's electric (lazy fuck) versions of Handpressos. I guess the American market couldn't muster the energy to pump their Handpressos so they electrified them.
-
• #18645
It's like an espresso but it's made quicker.

The rok?
Yeah a bit. And its huge. Plus I can make great espresso and hole, and it will never be a good so I'll just be annoyed.I think I'll just sack off espresso and go moka/cafatiere. And get espresso from a cafe.
I just need caffine to be human.

Actually. Seems perfect time to go Turkish, love that.

Thought I answered.
Anyway, no I was referring to the Robot by Cafelat, there has been discussion of it in this thread. -
• #18649
I dip in and out, so hadn't seen that.
Look ideal, and better than the rok. Thanks!
I went for a 1zpresso JX pro grinder.

Cheers, I can wholeheartedly vouch for mine.
What’s your dose?
