Nice! Thanks for the info, can definitely see this becoming a bit of a rabbit hole

Ah cool, will hang on for the Rwanda on Friday.
The last order has brought me and the wife a lot of joy working through the different varieties.

I mean sure but what's wrong with bongs made from garden hose and orange juice bottles?!

My vices must be aesthetically pleasing.

Another daft yellow bourbon order sent - I just can’t help myself when filling my cart. Gonna be a good few weeks.

https://www.javapresse.com/blogs/aeropress/2-ways-brew-aeropress-coffee-for-two
useful read (for me, hadn't considered the pour over method) might give it a go, although I don't expect it to be better than V60.

I know some people swear by it, but I’ve struggled to get as good a cup of coffee out of the Aeropress as the V60. Like-for-like, I always get a stronger, fuller tasting cup out of the V60. I have to use far more coffee in the Aeropress to get close and even then it tastes a bit empty in comparison. I don’t think I’d waste coffee experimenting, if I’m honest.

I can get more consistent results from Aeropress but it’s rarely amazing. With V60 I can get stunning and terrible brews throughout the same bag.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant I wouldn't expect using the AP for pour over to be better than the V60. V60 vs Aeropress inverted, overall I prefer the Aeropress still.

Nice one. WRT resting and optimal freshness it tends to depend on the amount of
convection used during roasting. On my kit which is low convection, the coffee tastes
best about 3 weeks post roast. It’s so smooth, rich and defined at that point. That
continues up to about 8 weeks when it starts to drop off but not suddenly. Prior to the
3 weeks it’s more edgy, less than a week and it’s just not nearly as sweet or defined. That's interesting! Does that hold for any brewing method? I've only ever heard that you should leave it for a few days after roasting.
Ironically, I've had an order arrive today (only ordered on Tuesday!), but I might order some of the Rwanda next week so that I can leave it alone for a couple or three weeks.

Yes whatever brewing method it’s good if you can leave our coffee for 2 or 3 weeks. Don’t plan your life around it or anything, it’s nice whatever you do with it. At home generally I end up drinking reject roasts or grabbing very fresh coffee because I’ve run out, but whenever I do actually practice what I preach (usually more by luck than judgement) and have coffee at 3 or 4 weeks post roast it’s always remarkably better.
That’s just my stuff, it’s probably different for other roasters using different kit. Wherever it’s from though really don’t stress as long as it’s less than a couple of months old.

It generally takes me a month or so to get through a bag of coffee and this all rings true to me - particularly roasters who send coffee out the day after it's roasted I find flavour develops as I get through the bag around the 2/3 week mark.

I agree with you. Aeropress can be very convenient but for me, it can be wildly inconsistent and even at its best, not as good as v60. I like that I own one for the flexibility it has, but I'll never use it as my daily driver again.

Just bought a Lelit Mara PL62, so that’s my Gaggia Classic upgraded.
Very excited to how much of a difference it makes.

• #18317
Any plans for the classic?

Buy a new OPV and sell it, I rounded the nut trying to adjust the pressure last week.
I will sell it on here as this is where I bought it 7 years ago.
-
• #18319
That will probably be my next machine too, what are the big differences? Is it easy to get consistent results with it?
Still really enjoying fiddling with my Classic tho', my sister-in-law will get the Gaggia when we're finally done with it... She's becoming coffee-at-home curious...

I can only go by what others have said as I've not been able to get a hands on a demo. I bought it used but with a 1years warranty left.
I had a look at the reviews on here:
https://coffeeequipmentreviews.wordpress.com/2017/11/20/lelit-mara-pl62s/
and the MaraX (latest version)
https://coffeeequipmentreviews.wordpress.com/2020/03/10/lelit-marax-review-in-progress/
total man maths to justify the purchase (WFH and Saved coffee spend = New machine), as it looks like WFH is going to be the new norm I want better coffee...Just need to up my skills.

Have we had this yet? No doubt already discussed at length on here but I was 20+ pages behind when I clicked the thread.
Pretty cool and I now kinda want to get into merchant sailing....

Reminded me: what can I do with used coffee grounds (other than dump them out the window on some plants)?

Thanks to whoever recommended Plot up thread, been really enjoying the 'Panchita Irureta, Atipanaku Competition Lot' I got from them last week!
Yes, the Kenya is up, the Rwanda will go up on Friday provided the labels arrive tomorrow, then the Ethiopia will be on when one of those 2 runs out. Probably 4-6 weeks.
