didn't even know this thread existed. my only opinion on coffee is if you're not drinking this and only this, you're wasting my time, and yours.

That's dope! Your place is a shade under 50miles from me - perfect century ride territory. Looking forward to popping in sometime.

Ah cool, I'll look forward to seeing you. We're not open Sundays, give me a shout in advance if you're coming specially. Cheers :)

Yes Wicksteed! The kids love those swings and roundabouts. You myst be familiar with Kettering's environs.

I bought a carton of Oatly barista in tesco to try today. Steams just like proper milk, tastes like porridge but thats infinitely preferable to the taste of soya or almond milk. I'm going to try to get a case of it wholesale from somewhere.

Memory of a visit there. Closest been lately was Kelmarsh, but thrn not since 2012.
OB have a contact ad for trials in latest Caffeine Mag*. Email coffee@oatly.com think it's likely aimed at shops rather than domestic brewers. Edit: maybe good contact for wholesale too?
Is OB best steamed from fridge temp or ok to use straight from room temp?
*Also has a "state of the industry" survey, with a set of answers from (I think) @Matisse of fcp.

P.s. has anyone tried the Nitro can cold brew from Minor figures? Might be good to carry for a mid-race hit on long distance stuff in the wild. Going to keep eye out for it (in Sainsburys) apparently landing in May.

I only tried it from fridge temp, but that's usually best as you get more time to mix it after stretching for a nice even texture top to bottom. Worked great today.
Nice to see Nitro coffee going mainstream, I did a lot of experimenting with it at BB last summer, I'd like to put it in the shop this summer but it would need more spending. I don't have much appetite for more spending just now.

I'm going to organise a ride to Yellow Bourbon in Northampton to see @StevePeel new place. I'll sort a thread when appropriate but all welcome as long as you're happy with an 85 mile geared ride.

Fixed welcome too?

Cheers, will definitely try the Nitro soon.
Went at Fridge temp too for the OB, made 1 brew for partner as I wanted Espresso.
1) My pour was crap but the OB had micro-foamed nicely, so promising for future brews.
2) Noticed it was much thinner than moo-milk (always blue top here), left less gunk on both the steam wand & in the jug.
3) Partner said it is an acquired taste, and that it cooled alot quicker than a cows-milk drink.
For 2 & 3 above I'm thinking reason is less fat than cows milk?

It is an acquired taste that's for sure. I think the cooling and texture thing is because it uses rapeseed oil rather than dairy fat.

Here's a course up to Northampton. A mate and I did this route in reverse at xmas a couple of years ago in a storm. Ave 40mph southerly wind on a one-way ride south. Character building it was. Lovely route though through the Chilterns, you even go past a Center Parcs at Woburn.

Probably better than just doing the A5 (that's what I did the last time I headed that way, but it was at 5am on a Sunday...)
-
• #12742
Oh that must have been lovely!
-
• #12743
It was actually - pretty much had the road to ourselves all the way to Dunstable, then headed over to ride up the Ouse to Silverstone. The A5's not especially scenic, but it's easy riding, nice and efficient (thanks, Romans!) and you can't get lost

Yeah true, sounds nice. I havent got on a bicycle for over 6 weeks, I'm envious of all this riding talk.

Didn't see the profile. Looks worthy of a coffee. If I did make it, I wouldn't be expecting those on gears to hang around as I ground up the climbs.

Haha, you will earn a few coffees and possibly some cake!

Our five year old Gaggia Classic is failing to regulate its boiler temp (more than normal).
Turn it on, and it warms up and the red light to indicate brewing temp is reached comes on.
If I then pull a shot, the shot gets burnt.
If, instead of brewing a shot, I change to Steam Mode, the red light stays on. In the past, it would go off, whilst the boiler warmed up to steam temp.
It seems that the machine is always running at steam temp - 126 deg or so.
Anyone else experienced this? Did you fix it?

Own up. Who owns one of those "I make my special coffee at home and put it in a special mobile coffee mug and drink it on a packed train because I'm a special cunt" special mobile coffee mugs?

^ aye. mighty mug
Good to hear, partner been away but now back so OB will be the milk option at home tomorrow. Might even give it a whirl in an espresso based drink myself despite usually only usually drinking filter/espresso.
