toomuchcoffee.co.uk is pretty much the only uk one.
home-barista.com is pretty popular
baristaexchange.com is run by a cool, cool guy but obviously a bit more barista-centric.
coffeed.com is l33t. but a brilliant geek out read/rumour mongering from the celeb coffee world. it's invite only though
coffeegeek.com always seems really hard to read, i rarely check it. some people dig it

Yeah, but I hear he's an insufferable bore in person.
Do you know him then?
Stripped the machine down and it works much better, but I can only get a weak gurgle out of the steamer. When you turn the steamer on, it makes a lot of noise and steam comes out of the showerhead, but not out of the steam wand.
I'm stumped - the showerhead and steamer are supplied by the one boiler, so there must be a blockage somewhere. I did have a go at unblocking the wand and the brass pipe that runs from the boiler, but it might be further up...

I'm probably going to strip down the Cubika today to clean it and hopefully find out why it won't steam, as well as take photos for reference. Hopefully I'll be able to adjust the water temperature too, as it really does seem too hot - it comes out scalding, which may well be the way it's supposed to be, but it does seem too hot.
Anyone know if there are any technical diagrams out there I can refer to? I'm looking at you hippy...
I've no plans to stop posting on this thread, but I probably fancy joining a coffee forum - which is the best one out there? Not too snobby mind...

Oh, they'er manuals you want a schematic. I have Baby D and Classic here, not sure how similar they are..
They are pretty simple though. Just mark the wires and pipes when you disconnct them so you put them back correctly (or take photos along the way)

These seem to be getting good reviews. Can you beat them with another non-plumbed option?

First day roasting and a pro photographer comes in to build up his portfolio. Even looks like I know what I'm doing.
Vanity flattered, thanks.

Yeah, it's going really well, believe it or not I still don't officially start until Monday but I've done a few days this week whilst keeping an eye on the new driver. I'm really enjoying it and it's gonna be great when the full training course kicks in, there's some juicy chemistry to get into.
What you drinking at the mo?

stovetop I'm still using the luchadores from square mile roast and got some monsoon malabar, for the 'cinos and espressos with the gaggia I've gone back to the monmouth organic espresso blend
you got any recommendations?

From our stuff, the Colombia Quebradon is really singing at the moment, the dark roast has crystal clear delicate purple fruit and makes excellent single origin espresso and a great brewed coffee too, the medium roast has lovely up-front red fruit acidity in a filter or cafetiere. I would also heartily recommend the brasil Toca Da Onca for its ripe almost pungent soft fruit.
I had a shot of Square Mile's Tanzania Blackburn Estate at dose which was great, and one of their new Kenyans was nice and bright.

would appreciate a nice recipe for a cold, no-milk, espresso based drink. like to brew something for the DD to avoid techno food.

cold espresso, dark rum and a tiny bit of sugar [combine to taste]
or
cold espresso and maple syrup for a sugar/caffeine hit
if you make the espresso particularly concentrated i've seen it mixed in with nutella for a caffeine boosting sandwich

brilliant I think the sandwich gets a test run tomorrow morning

you can just have an americano/long black (whatever you want to call it) over ice. i'm not the biggest, biggest fan of 'spro over ice because it seems to taste a little bitter and you can lose out on all those lovely high end notes.
maybe think about cold brew coffee for which there are tons of recipes. i was in dose this morning and james the owner made a really simple pour over with half the amount of water then added a bunch of ice (which diluted and brought the coffee up to its 'normal' strenght) it was pretty tasty and really simple. i know you said no milk as well but an aforgado is always a winner when it's sunny.
