Lpg is bang on the money. I need to give up cakes and Clarke's Court white (yet another clue, besides the 2 towns in my tag). Why can't I be slimmer, AND eat whatever I like. This world. Stop it; I wanna get off.

No probs. Know what's a bit bizarre, because I'm a newbie here, I don't know anyone - BUT I work on Old Street, so see almost everyone daily.

Til last Thursday, me too.
I even worked for the same well known company as several well known forum members.
I wouldn't assume riding fixed is a freebie into hipster land...
Fora are a strange thing.

This is some weird sh*t. I was just Googling LFGSS and saw in the sub-headings "Equipment for a fat fella". So I logged in and re-read it; its funny. Since then, I've been to Westie drinks, met Murtle, Hippy, Provenrad, Hillbilly, Big Daddy (abbrv), and others. My journey time from Fulham to Old Street has dropped from 45 minutes to 31-34 minutes. Leg strength has gone up, one or two pounds have been dropped. I bought a Giant Bowery, that proves its worth in super-stong frame and tough wheels, to carry my near 19 stone. Quite alot has happened since I've joined, and its been all positive. Thanks to you folk, for being encouraging, and hopefully I'll be seeing many of you for rum at the cook-up on Aug 9th (approx).

I'm glad to hear to hear that you've progressed :) keep it up dude.
I really should get my arse down to westie drinks... or west polo if that's happening? no excuse really considering i live next door to the hospital.

Theres somewhat of a craze for small wheeled/foldable but highly tricked out city bikes in japan.
Any BMX'ers here or ET fans may remember kuwahara for their tasty "v bar" adorned BMX's
But these days they are mainly making these:

Someone like bianchi made a real nice more traditional looking one too, came with a brooks saddle n all. - Cant find it now though. -

Funny I found a beat up old kuwahara road frame - made a lush SS conversion White and some green and gold blingy bits must be one of the only 1's in london! anyone else got a kuwahara?

they are re-releasing a version of their old BMX frame to cash in on the retro BMX thing

Above the table you linked to is this comment: "The body does burn a higher percentage of calories from fat in the 'fat burning zone' or at lower intensities. But, at higher intensities, you burn a greater number of overall calories which is what you should be concerned about when trying to lose weight." which is exactly what I said.
The reason gyms have tables with Fat Burning Zones is because they do what the public want and make it all nice and easy to burn fat, laadeedah, here you go sir just plod along in this zone and you will be burning more fat..
They don't bother explaining that burning more calories overall at 80% HRmax is better because the public 1) don't want it any harder and 2) this fat burning zone thing is a fairly well published mistake.
I thought the same thing a few years ago but I've read enough physiology/training books to know better now and when I spot a chance to dispel the myths I do it.If the guy (I wish he had a shorter name so I'd actually type it!) was previously a cyclist then he should be able to start off with a week or two of easy 60% stuff and then he should look at whacking in some 80% efforts and see how they go. It will get results quicker (if it doesn't kill him ;)).
Sorry to get the thread back onto weight loss, but I did LISS (low intensity steady state) cardio and ended up losing 18kg. Granted it was not just the cardio but a strict diet and weight lifting program as well.
It's been debated ad infinitum on the 'net (just do a search: LISS vs HITT) but what I found is that if you do LISS cardio (45-50mins @ 70% MHR) on an empty stomach first thing in the morning the fat just shed really quickly. The theory behind it being first thing in the morning with nothing in your gut the only thing you're going to burn is fat. You have to keep it in the aerobic zone otherwise you'll eat up muscle as it's more readily available to your body than fat. Anything anaerobic (75% MHR+) you're going to need fuel or it's bye bye muscle.
With HITT or anaerobic exercise you get the benefit of a raised metabolism throughout the day though but whilst you burn more overall calories, you can't do it on an empty stomach.
Those fat burning zones in the gym are correct, but eating a pork pie and then doing a 20 min walk on an inclined treadmill isnt going to do shit.
I dunno, maybe what I have just wrote it complete bollocks but it worked for me. The shit thing is I have given it up and put 10kg back on.

You should use those workouts sparingly though because if you are competing or doing other training you will quickly find yourself knackered from the empty-stomach riding.
Anyway I ride on empty in the mornings and eat like a fucking pig later hence being a fat cunt. So the system is flawed.. nyer :P

Just shit more.
I have been having one extra Michael Knight a day, for the last few months, and the weight is practically falling off. -

I did it 6 times a week, walking on an treadmill at 12 degree incline watching the telly at the gym. I got a few weird looks from fellow gym monkeys like - yer, that's doing anything. But it worked well.
If you ride on an empty stomach in the morning and you're caning it maybe you're burning muscle for fuel and leaving the flabby bits behind! Add pies to the mix... hmm. :P
I took weight loss all too seriously about 2 years ago and was stoked with the results. 6 pack, striations in my shoulders, but it was not fun. With anything not fun, doing it for extended periods of time sucks donkey balls so I gave up. I'm going to just ride till I sweat and try and keep off the pies for a bit and hope I lose a bit of flab. I'm 6' and 82kg so not fat by any stretch but my moobs are starting to come back, gotta get rid of em!

Not as good as you mate! But really, I don't weigh myself. I just know as I feel differently, that my fitness is improving. But I know I haven't lost nearly as much as a stone.

You're probably gaining muscle as you get fitter, heavier innit.

So I heard, but I know a lawyer from the same place who made out with me for a year, before going back to that testosterone-free land. Was real good.
