• ChrisNW I'd love to be there, but cant.
Anyone doing a ride in Liverpool/Manchester area?

Doing a ride FROM Manchester to Liverpool, well Formby on the 4th of April. Not intended as a tribute to Sheldon, but I'm sure all impending en route mechanical issues will be dedicated to the great man.

Yeah here are the details..riding in solidarity and respect..
    Friday 4th April
    Midnight Ride to Formby
Sunrise swim. Meet at The Sandbar at Midnight to ride. Bring good lights, food, towel, swimming stuff, warm clothes, bike etc.
It's about 40 miles and as its a night ride we'll take to the road which we should have more or less to ourselves. A few stop offs for some light refreshment is likely. Click here for the route we'll take. Some might ride back, others may take the train from formby to Manchester. Maybe see how you feel when you get there...

Formby: Large area of beach, sand dunes and pine woods: Stunning stretch of unspoilt coastline, Long sandy beaches and attractive pine woods, Playful red squirrels, often brave enough to scamper up close, Search for 5,000-year-old red deer footprints on the beach...

"An adventure by moonlight. We'll ride thorugh mostly traffic free country lanes, settling into groups to ride with people going at a similar pace. Stopping off now and again for a swig of something to warm us up. Flying through little villages, past dark fields, under a blanket of stars and a black sky dotted with bats...we'll feel tired and wonder why we're not in our beds at times and we'll never get that nights sleep back. But it'll be worth it. And as we ride into the sunrise and towards the shore of Formby where our cheerleaders, the red squirrels, will meet us..we'll be glad we did it....even if it rains the whole way!!!"

  • Has anyone seen the olymipc torch route? Same day, lots of police Could be a problem?

  • Why is the torch here and not in China?

  • goes around the world doesn't it?

police won't be a problem its not a race or a critical mass

  • RPM

Why the fuck is the torch going to be on a bus/dlr? and what's the point in handing it to a cyclist for about 500 meters? The world is actually going mad.

  • yeah but it is gonna fuck up the route innit?

Also does this mean we all ought to be Not In Town that sunday if we feel that the Olympics should be boycotted as a mark of support for the protestors who are being killed, beaten and tortured by the Chinese state in and around Tibet?

    shit

yeah, seems like it might be a bit late to change it. however, the sheldon ride is scheduled to start at 1.30pm at hyde park corner, by which time the torch should be at the south bank (no 6 on the torch route map) and heading north/east from there. i'd guess that most of central london will be open for most of the day, and the two events needn't cross each other.

  • we'll be fine.

the route can and will be changed ad-hoc along the way if we have to.

that's why we need a few people with good central london knowledge to lead, and I don't mean taxi drivers!

  • yeah let's change the route CM stylee... Maybe OPer should post this up top too ^^^

Anyone want to try and make a Olympic torch stealing detour? We could take water pistols and try to extinguish it...

  • ooops.

  • I will sort out the video coverage.. Count me in

Yeah I doubt very much there will be any conflict, unless of course peeps would rather watch a flame-stick carrier than memorialise The Sheldon.

I will be bringing my kid down, watch she doesn't knock you of your bikes.

  • I've added the Sheldon Brown Memorial Ride - London (UK) as an event on Facebook, so anyone with a Facebook account can circulate the event info to all their friends at the click of a button.

  • Argh, I can't make it. Rather annoying because I use Sheldon's web site lots, and I'd like to ride with everyone on here. My bike is in pieces at the moment, and it won't be finished by the weekend. :(

I would strike my name off the list but I can't find a strikethrough tag...

    Irony?

Just use the custom bbcode: [ s ] strikethrough [ / s ] without all of the spaces = strikethrough

ahh, I tried every code I could think of except that!

  • ahh, I tried every code I could think of except that!

Which ones did you guess? I'll add those too.

  • eeehhhh, what does it need to get it running for the weekend, time? parts? love?
I'm sure there's enough of all three on here to get it sorted.

  • Which ones did you guess? I'll add those too.

I had the same issue last night..
Tried (st) and (strike) before (s)

    [ strike ], [ strikethrough ], [ st ], [strike][ s ][/strike], [ del ]

    I didn't use [ s ] that would have worked, haha.

well a fair bit is on order and should arrive by the end of the week, it's just some 292mm dt swiss competition db spokes in black I need to find and then build the wheel which I can get done in an afternoon. I'm back in London on friday so I'll try then.

Other than that I need to install new miche cranks + bb, fit new cog, lockring, chain, brakes and brake cables and add bar tape. and it should, after about 8 months, be done exactly how I think I want it... Although I have a suspicion the bb condor reckon would be fine is going to be too narrow, and something always goes wrong :)

Even if I do get everything done by then, I'm not sure if I'll even be able to get my bike back to London 'cause I've got bring my fscking Brompton on the train with me to sell it to some guy off Gumtree, and I don't reckon it's possible to bring both bikes + stuff for weekend on my own :(
