  • Not sure what to do while there, but make sure that when you come back you pronounce it "Budapesht" and explain to everyone it is in fact two cities.

  • Thanks guys, any more?

  • Walk up buda hill. Nice walk and look around the fishermans area. Nice walk and beautiful views.

  • Memento park and aqua world

  • Sezeny and gelert baths are amazing. I was there in December a few years ago, sitting in an outdoor swimming pool with steam rising causing the sunset to from rainbows while snow fell was quite amazing.

    There are cheap eterem "eating rooms" like workers cafes which are a bargain place to get very humble Hungarian food.

  • Szimpla is the recommended in every guide known by everyone bar but is still worth a visit.

    House of Terror / Terror Haza is one of the best museums/historical buildings I've ever been to.

  • Terror Haza was incredibly humbling

  • +1 for Szimpla and don't think Corvinteto has been mentioned, can get pretty crazy in there ;-)

  • also they have these freshly made pastries called Kurtosh, really sweet depending on the topping. They bring back fun times in Budapest for me

  • ask Kati on here as her family come from Budapest as well.

    Széchenyi is the best one to go for, ignore Gelert.

  • drink Unicum. Tastes like poison.

  • There is a lots of awesome restaurant there, sadly I don't remember much but this is what I got so far from the top of my head.

    Cafe:
    BARbár Café
    Tamp & Pull Espresso Bar
    Massolit Books and Café

    Restaurant;
    Arriba Taqueria Mexican Fast Food (very very good mexican)
    Govinda (vegetarian).

    Hungarian burgers;
    Marika Néni Café (very unique)

  • Ride around in the VIII.(8th) district, for a ghetto-like feel.

  • Ride up and down the danube bank, there are nice paths in both directions.

  • go to this bikeshop for anything: http://reciklibicikli.blogspot.co.uk/

  • especially italian stuff

  • can get pretty crazy in there ;-)

    ..urgh...don't remind me

  • Széchenyi is the best one to go for, ignore Gelert.

    Scoble are right.

  • The wreck bars can be pretty fun...

  • I'm off to Budapest for the weekend with 8 mates at the end of July (Not a stag or hen!). Lots of good tips in this thread, I am excited!

    If anyone has anymore up to date info it would be much appreciated, we're only there midday Friday - Sunday afternoon but want to get some sightseeing, beers and good food in.

  • Thread ressurection
    Visiting Budapest next month with a couple pals and we're thinking of hiring some bikes out to get about on. Firstly is this actually worth doing or would we better off on foot/public transport? Secondly does anyone have any reccomendations cyle hire-wise? Had some very bad experiences with rentals in the past and I really don't wanna end up riding a piece of shit with pringled wheels around a forgein city again...
