  • That being said, the problem with THAT situation was the big fuck off lorry being driven by a fuckwit!
I blame who ever devises the lorry licencing exam and didn't put "don't secure doors with a coathanger" in the test.

I watched Kung-fu panda with my boy last night and the ' There are no accidents '

Not according to my parents :-)

If that's not a reason to elect him to the most powerful political position in london I don't know what is.

+1 to frankie boyle being a genius

  • on these routes the bicycle will dominate and that will be clear to all others using them

so just the same roads everybody already uses then, with a few signs with pictures of bikes on that motorists can continue to ignore.

maybe I'm cynical but a "Bicycle superhighway" implies a large, straight route entirely and exclusively for use by cycles. Just as a motorway is for motor vehicles and a pavement is for pedestrians

  • ' There are no accidents '

XD I'm not going to stop saying/ posting that! ....it might end up a little insensitive..

  • And just like motorways what about the bits where you have to get on them and off ?
Repacement bus service ? Courtesy coach ?

  • +1 to frankie boyle being one and the same as our very own tommy
well i've never seen them in the same room together

  • they are supposed to be doing a specific cycle route down from the city to mile and and onto the river lea and olympic site
using the wide pavements all the way down that road they called it a greenway ( not to be confused with the greenway thats currently up and running from beckton to victoria park ) tree lined and made for bikes only no sharing with buses or motorbikes
heard about that a year or so ago
didn't really believ it at the time

    What about pedestrians?

  • What about pedestrians?

    Errrr work ??

    Late back....

    Lfgss obsession-ey.

    Huff......

  • Shhhh, I'm doing it, just waiting for stuff to compile/save...

  • screw 'em, let them use the bus lanes

  • This is more likely to happen ...

  • I prefer Yoda's logic . . . "Do or do not. There is no try!" ;)

  • Got a leaflet proposing CS5 today, which will go from New Cross to Victoria.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the CS as they make drivers feel justified that they can tell cyclists to squeeze over to the left.

    What do others think?

Feedback is being taken from 3.12.12 until 11.01.13 at this address:
    https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/cycling/cs5

  • At least this new cs route will be clean and maintained to an certain extent, the one at east (cs3) is bloody terrible! runs along side with a duel carriage way (a13) and a lot of glass and broken car bits on the cs route, but i guess that is the only way for people in east to cycle into central.

  • My big worry is the detail that 'mandatory cycle ways' are being touted. Dreadful idea that must be fought!!

  • ^Not sure if serious...

It just means that the line dividing them from the road is solid and cars/etc aren't allowed to cross that line (as opposed to a broken line).

  • My big worry is the detail that 'mandatory cycle ways' are being touted. Dreadful idea that must be fought!!

Agreed. I want to be able to ride in the road and not be forced onto the blue lane of nodderdom/death/etc...

  • This is really good from Patrick Field!

The tendency of riders to follow the blue stripes reduces uncertainty. Uncertainty keeps people alert. The stripes discourage communication – looking and signalling – between road users. Communication keeps people awake and encourages them to look out for each other.

  • That sentence is really good.

  • well according to tfl supremo Sir Peter 'ignorant fuckwit' hendy, all cyclists need in order to not get driven into by poorly driven hunks of speeding metal is moar lights. well done sir peter, you're worth every penny.

  • Scary:

    http://lcc.org.uk/articles/mayors-cycle-superhighway-2-extension-the-first-step-towards-going-dutch-for-london-cyclists

Those mad jigs left at bus stops, also notice at the beginning when you have to jig left to get on the blue bit, bloody hell!

  • I wonder how that will cope with the rush hour commute. 2m wide is it? hardly enough for riders to overtake each other

  • "These short sections of cycle track inside the bus stops are rather narrow and the kerbs are too high, so you can't use the full width, but the principle is sound and interaction with bus passengers was conflict-free during our test journey".

Middle of the day when it's pissing it down is obviously about as conflict-free as you're likely to get other than dead of night.

How will they fare in at peak times in the middle of summer? Think I'll have more sympathy for the bus passengers than cyclists.

  • Yeah, look at the angle, you'd have to scrub right off with traffic up your arse.
