Have done, was just wondering if any messengers working for companies they wouldn't sh*t on the floor of if they got the chance would poke their heads up and wave the 'we're hiring' flag..
Just want to work for a bunch that aren't going to charge me a massive deposit for a radio / xda/ leave me on standby all day because i'm a newbie.. although I accept that the latter is unlikely..

Also not being ripped off* is pretty high on the list.

The companies hire new couriers. And the couriers usually have no interest in new collegues, especially if they are good riders. Because "fresh" and well-working collegues reduce their income.
On radio lease fees, deposits etc.: High montly costs do not necessarily mean that you don't earn much at a certain company. The interesting questions are: how many dockets per day? how much of the docket turnover remains for you?
I'm on the road in Berlin, so I cannot tell you anything about the actual situation in London. But here in Berlin, the companies with the highest possible turnover are also the companies with the highest monthly fees. Contracts with these companies are interesting for people who really want to work full-time. "Full-time" means at least 9 hours per day and not more than one day off per month. With that presence on the road It's possible to live from couriering at least in Berlin. I would expect the situation to be similar in London. People who only turn the radio when the sun is shining, never out before 11am and already gone at 4pm won't earn anything.

i work for courier systems and this autumn/winter the money was rolling in very nicely but has since fallen to ridiculously shite levels. I think we now have 30+ riders or something ridiculous like that. would be surprised to get more than 180 for this 4 day week....... i get the feeling in the summer you want to be with smaller companies with a guarantee.

Anyone know of any non shit places that are hiring at the moment? Thinking of giving it a go.
Don't. The money is terrible, and there are more than enough experienced riders to go round at the moment.

Don't really understand the question.
You want to work as a courier for 2 days?
2 days a week or just 2 days?I doubt many companies will take part timers on these days and if they do you'll be very far down in the pecking order as it will take some time for you to build up a rapport with your controllers.
I used to work part time, but it wasn't worth it as you would take so much longer to learn routes etc. I went full time and just bunked when I needed to.If you do manage to get with a company be prepared to earn really bad money. It is grim out there these days.
If you just want to work as a courier for 2 days knock on the door at Courier systems. They'll pretty much take anyone on, but they used to have a funny deposit scheme for the radio so you'll be fighting for that if you jack it in in 2 days. I wouldn't recommend working for them as they are crap, but they'll take beginners on.To be honest get a different job and commute by bike. You'll enjoy the cycling more.
Head over to movingtarget and have a good read of everything there.

As predicted the bloody tories seeming 'out with the arts' manifest and the gradual decimation of the FE sector nationaly, has resulted in the entire art dept at my workplace being axed. Hence mine and six other outstanding teachers jobs being placed under threat of redundancy. Alongside fighting the decision on principle I have decided to take voluntary severance and get the hell out.
I am hoping to work as a cycle courier as soon as I have worked out my notice, and was wondering if anyone on the forum could help out with any advice, contacts with good firms, preparation tips, how do I go about getting a job etc etc...
Cheers amigos... -

When I did it I went through the yellow pages and called all courier/ messenger services and asked for interviews. I think I started making calls on the Monday and I had a job by the Wednesday. I ended up working for Holborn Globetrotters for a short while. That was in 2007 before the world went to pot, so it might be very different these days.

How did you find the jobT-V? I am expecting it to be very competitive and am under no illusions that it is as simple as the 'just riding around on your bike all day and being paid for it' idyll.....
