I'm doing this tomorrow morning... I'm normally a bit of a boring milk and honey guy, some delicious sounding tips in here that I'm eager to try out!

Current daily mix:
Oats, soya milk, water (1 pt milk/2 pts water), half banana sliced, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, maple syrup, salt.Previous "phases" have included: jam (mainly raspberry), marmalade, cinnamon, blackberries, blueberries, hot chocolate...
I tried tahini once and wasn't impressed, but maybe I'm more ready for savoury experimentation now. Anyone tried Marmite?

is rolling your own oats pointless or worth it?

Standard breakfast
Pimhill farm jumbo oats - 1 cup
Rice milk - 1 cup
Cook with a handful of blueberries (I use frozen) and ground cinnamon
Top with sliced banana, smashed almonds (toasted if I can be arsed), chia seeds and golden syrupNot the cheapest but porridge is pretty much my only luxury.

That's because you shop at Waitrose, everything is overpriced. Get yerself to Aldi/Lidl.

I think this was in Grace Dents biography, recalling the way her grandfather made porridge. Made a batch for the week in the drawer, normally a few beetles in it come the last couple of days.

I toast a bit of desiccated coconut in the pan first, until it's just turning golden.
Then add oats, some chia seeds. Plant mylk.
Some cinnamon
Sweeten with barley malt syrup.
I sometimes add a bit of coconut oil or Vegan Block if I'm having a busy day and feel like I need the extra fuel. -

Who will confess to adding Huel to their porridge?
-
• #136
Not porridge, but I've added it to Greek yoghurt
And I've added Greek yoghurt to porridge oats...

My secret ingredients is a couple of spoons of readybrek and gives it a nice texture and thickness.
Edit... i like to use tesco organic oats..normally don't do organic but with oats I really appreciate the difference. -

Big fan of pinhead oats, but alas the missus isn't, so I don't make them as much as I'd like. Especially if you soak them overnight they're not too much faff. Heather honey and half a tablespoon of whisky is a great topping, though maybe best saved for weekends...

Caramlized banana is a game changer and so easy
Did this this morning, it was good, but resented the extra pan to wash up

Leftover vegan double cream in my porridge this morning 💪

but resented the extra pan to wash up
This is so important to porridge, it HAS to be a one pan thing. Anything more you might as well pay someone else to make it.
The best porridge I had in recent memory was Waitrose cafe in Edenbridge.

When you're freezing your tits off and someone hands you a warm cup of porridge it's always good.
I'm not sure that is good enough for the daily hygge-style porridge we're after here

cup !

why add another pan, is the porridge pan not difficult enough to clean as it is without adding to the labour of hercules

ReadyBrek is basically oat-and-wheatflour-dandruff, but CHRIST it's so good when made with full fat milk and left a bit clumpy/runny.
-
• #146
Ready brek put me off porridge for the whole of my childhood and adolescence
-
• #147
I put quite a lot of ready brek in my porridge and omit the oats entirely

I once put some Katsu curry powder in overnight oats (and Huel). It was terrible.
As a twice maybe three times daily eater of oats / porridge. This thread reminds me that there is still good in this world.
