:-D
Anth, of http://www.citycycling.co.uk/ has a peacemaker which he loves. Talk to him.
Also, I really have no idea what is wrong with the word fixie.
-
• #30
eeehhhh probably because of the harsh 'x' in fixie.
definitely the 'ie'
-
• #31
yeah
actually i take back what i said, the whole word is awful.

it's the "Fi" I'm not keen on...

I spent a fair amount of time drooling over the Peacemaker & Blackjack spec PDFs. They really are shiny. Inspired me.

They are a couple of (ex) messengers from Germany and I think they came with the name at least 5 years ago. Maybe not so good at looking into the future. Maybe it's just the continental thing. A couple of Danish exengers opened up a shop simply called "Track bike shop" about a year ago...
I think the look is very good though.

I've not seen one in the flesh..
if you like them, and can afford it, why not?
there's worse bikes out there for even more money...lots of them.
-
• #36
Does that mean that "Track" will be a prescribed word in 4 years? Or will the Fixie fad have faded by then?
-
• #37
Thanks to you lot, I found loads of shiny stuff and got Brixton Cycles to put them together for me.

Worth getting or should I look elsewhere? I'm looking for a nice fork after getting the headset replaced for a threaded one on the Bianchi Pista, it look rather smart and elegant for the Pista's frame.
I just like the classic look of the quill and to be able to quickly chang bar and stem when needed, I kinda missed it when I sold my old Peugeot.
edited - title should be StraightCurve fork, not Straightbar.

I think that looks nice. Very clean and elegant.
I've got no idea whether you should look for something else, though.

If you want a set, buy them now.
The guys down at Mosquito told me that Fixie Inc are stopping sale of their forks/bars.
Don't know if I believe that, but that is what two of them said when I was checking the forks out the other week. -

Saw two of these hung in the shop today, thought £1000 was a lot for 4130 with pretty fugly TIG welds, wider than 120mm rear, and the massive polished alu fork i thought looked nasty. And no bar tape WTF! Wasn't very impressed by the finish on the sugino messenger cranks either.
Any one seen one / ridden one?

Blackjack got a reasonable review in Cycling Plus a month or two back...
I seem to recall a bit on the heavy side, and perhaps more of a looker than a goer. Frameset was £685, bike as tested £1650.

£685? just think of the choice of custom british frames out there for the same money or less.
rourke, mercian, jackson, wilson etc etc -
• #46
cheap tubing is a fail IMO, with a frame that price, good tubing is a must

rourke, mercian, jackson, wilson etc etcthe lugged blackjack is £685, whether the Peacemaker is £480.
either way still a lots of money for a frame, when there's other that perform a lots better for similar price (the bareknuckle come to mind, much loved by other, even when their other bike is an NJS/custom build bike/etc.)

Any good quality frame made of average tubing should be around £300. The only variance should be where it is made. If Bob Jackson can make a frame in the UK for £350 then a frame of the same quality can be made anywhere in the world for the same price as the UK has high labour rates.
Anyone charging over than needs to be able to justify it some how and I can't see why the Fixie Inc frames are priced as high as they are. Is there a more complex build process, are they using more expensive tubing or do they just have inefficiences from being smaller scale? -
• #49
even Bob Jackson at 350 quid are made out of reynolds 631, great value for that price.
-

including vat mercian are about £600 at the moment.
because I'm a hipster, and what people think is what I'm about.
