I have always found that sort of bar tape a visual delight.
Me too. And i've collected some very visual ones too!

Cheep cloth tape - surely the worst of both worlds? I really would not look to mr dobbins for advice, 90% of the bikes owned by this forum would give him a heart attack.
I looked it up at other places and it was expensive meh

Some of you may know im doing a cheapo FG/SS project Im collecting my frame tomorrow
I'm gunna go with some Deda Leather Look Bar Tape.... Just wondering, do i wrap the bars fully or just the drops. Ive been looking online and it seems to vary. Is there any logical reasoning behind this or is it simply down to personal preference ?
I will probably keep the bike brakeless to start and only use the fixed gear, then when going on a longer ride, put the brakes back on. This edges me towards only taping up the lower section of the drops...
Any help would be appreciated :D

If you want to win the Darwin Award, then be my guest, otherwise put brake on first.

Really,
Seen loads of bikes on forums run brakeless. Obviously, if i wasn't using the fixed gear then i would run a brake. Do i really need one when running fixed? Never ridden a FG before so need advice !

If you want to ride it on the road, then yes, it's a legal requirement. If you want to run it on the track instead, then it needs to be brakeless. If you've no experience of riding fixed and you take straight it out in traffic, you are likely to ride it straight into a vehicle and damage yourself. If plod spots you they might give a fine (assuming you don't hospitalise yourself first).

Thanks for the advice mate,
Total NEWB in FG riding. Will leave the brakes on then and see how i get on, just done a quick Google and the law is a fixie needs a front brake :O The bike comes with drop levers, however i might get a flat bar lever instead for the front brake...

Don't listen to any of those cretins above. You not heard? Brake are death!
-
• #164
Most people who run only one brake tend to use a stubby lever on the flat as you suggest.
FWIW I ride fixed with two brakes, drops and hoods as it's more comfortable for me - I've never really got on with having a brake near the stem either as I tend to want to be able to access it quickly in an emergency. I do reasonably long distances fixed, though.

It's very likely they all started with a brake(s).

Well that's interesting must be on a fixed
Bollocks to Dobbins and his bikes. They're made to be ridden, not photographed.
