  • stevo_com whats the average GI on here anyway?

46x17 is somewhere between 71" and 72" depending on your mathematical sensibilities, and therefore is equivalent to the following GI:

Table 3 - High Glycaemic Index (GI) Foods

    Mashed potato 70
    White bread 70
    Watermelon 72
    Swede 72
    Bagel 72

  • 65-75" gear around Lundun.

    Spinners are grinners.

  • stevo_com 52:16, but I'm a wuss and have a brake

52:16 is that all, I used to run 60:14...

okay, okay, so it was on a bike with small wheels meaning only a 72" gear...

    but it sounds impressive though.

  • Nah, it's like a golf handicap. Lower gear inch numbers are more impressive.

My current bike is also my first fixed. quote]

    hence the absurd gear?

    PJ see:

When I built it last year I just used the crankset I had lying around and the cheapest cog I could get my hands on and ended up with that 52-20. Then a friend gave me a 16T and it seemed more comfortable so I splashed out on a Surly one (which was subsequently nicked, waiting on a Dura-ace replacement).

hippy, yeah, was considering a 46T chainring with the new crankset so that would be about 75" I reckon, will have to wait for funds though. my current crankset has the chainring fixed to the right crank so it wouldn't be just a case of a new ring.

  • When I was back home (Northern Ireland) visiting family and friends over christmas, a friend and I 'fixed' a crappy cheap MTB that someone had given to my dad. we just, again, used what we had lying around. could only find a 13T cog so ground the bigger two rings off another MTB's chainset leaving the granny ring (28T 56"), looks a bit silly having such a small drive train but coupled with the high BB gives shit loads of clearance. tons of fun to boot.

  • before anyone comments, there's a front brake because the rear hub is a regular freewheel hub and the cog is too small to allow for a BB lockring.

definitely hippo. the black commuter is on 65", dave yates 71", polo bike bike 55":p , holdsworth will be 70"

  • In hell they ride 66.6.

  • Shit I think my Claud is on 86",
    27"x1" tyre/165crank/48tx15t
    Surely sum miftake?

    told ya, spin to win!!

  • I think I'd win provided I had a tail wind, downhill...

  • noggin Psalm 50:14 -
"Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High[; and fit a front brake]"

    Hah
