A cheap rucksack is usually more than enough mate, after all you're going to school, which I assumed isn't that far away on a bicycle.
when I was a kids, my parents made me ride to school (which is 3 miles away), because at the time they were struggling, I have to use those really old canvas rucksack my father use when he was trekking Africa like this;
Well at least now you're a grown up you got to pick something totally different to what your folks made you use... :)

Is it wrong that I quite like the look of that bag that Scott posted? Yes, I thought so too.

These are awesome day-packs - what I used when I was trekking in Nepal - pretty comfy, completely waterproof, not too big, lightweight and CHEAP :)

Alpkit are really good to deal with too and make a lot of clever but well priced kit.

cause the karrimors have stiff backs
I ride with one of these, Wind 25 it's called. I like it very much, it's as comfy as kitten fur socks and it was reduced from £60 to £15 at Lillywhites.
Can nay grumble.

Get yourself down TK Maxx. I got a Vango 35 litre jobby, rigid padded back (this really helps - used to feel loads of stuff diging into my back with old rucksack), room for a water pouch and line, fully adjustable shoulder, waist and chest straps, loads of pockets, reflective piping for £15. Here it is for £22:
http://www.sportswarehouse.co.uk/acatalog/Vango_Wanderer_25L_Rucsac.htmlYou don't need 'the best' one, and 'the best' is subjective anyway. If it does what you want and looks okay, it's the right one.

Deuter bags are good. I have one with a mesh thing to hold the back away from your back which is designed to reduce your sweating. I still sweat, but less...;)

Hmm - my digital SLR would love that bag. I have really nice CSS canvas one but it's a mono strap type thing so isn't actually that comfy for long periods.
