Thanks for the advice, might be interesting to mix the bits. I will ponder on and when i get it done, pics will be provided for your criticism. On - a final question - what hubs and rims would be best/.
Thanks again,
Richard

Fruit's bike! a blast from the past -
• #1381
i'm hoping mine will be a little bit smaller looking. that one does look like it has been squashed a bit
it's going to herne hill tomorrow so i might try and sneak on the track for a quick lap ! -

57 is just about as good as it gets size/aesthetics wise I think... post some pics soon as it's rideable!

If that frame comes from Fruit, it's the old team frame of Ralf Elshof.
I've picked that one up for Fruit from the previous owner.
Ralf was a great track and road racer (and a nice colleague after his cycling career as well). Especially as a 6 days racer with René Pijnen and Peter Pieters. -

oh man the beastie has arrived, it's an ex Leon Nevels frame Dutch Cheese, Gazelle team rider from 1980's
unpacked it last thursday
at first i was underwhelmed wasn't sure i like the set up the silver wheels the stem looks a bit odd
but having spent most of the last 3 days looking at it and poking and appreciating it i must say i am very happy
the blue colour scheme didn't really grab me at first but now i have seen in in the full sunlight of an easter weekend and looked in more detail i am loving it
it cam with cinelli citeriums on a cinelli 101 stem. might switch the 101 for a 1a 80cm
saddle not all that will try and get a kashimax in white
front DA hub i think i'll switch out for a matching campy record so campy record pista hubs and chainset
will get a campy aero seatpost
haven't swung a leg over it yet for a ride but it seems to fit me perfectly. can't wait to unveil it when it's finished -

Great.
Please hurry and share it with us. -

looks like another gazelle track on marktplaats from the decals looks quite an oldie but can't really see any detail from the frame.
-
• #1388
looks like an oldie indeed.... and it's gone already so we might never find out
-

What happened to that website that matched Gazelle serial numbers to dates?
I think it was here - http://www.fivenineclimber.com - but the site seems to have gone down and doesn't look like it's coming back.
I'm trying to find an accurate date for my Baanfiets. Serial number 3195232. Pretty sure it's '77, '78 or '79 but I now don't have the resource to check. Annoying.

Ah, yes. I think that's the one. Thanks muchly.
Mid '77 then. That should help me find the right 531 decals.

the guy who won was also bidding on the one i got
he seemed keen to get hold of one -
• #1393
There are several people bidding on everything carrying the name Gazelle and hope to make some profit by re-selling. Not so nice for us, enthousiasts, because all they do is increasing the price.
The blue one on Marktplaats: poor pics. I even doubt that it is a Gazelle. Could be, but what is it worth without the original paint and decals and probably after many crashes? For someone it's worth EUR 600.-, obviously. -
• #1394
massive long shot but i don't suppose anyone on here bought this Gazelle pista frame??
-
• #1395
Nope, but i think i know who owns it. Very special frameset i guess, strange details for a Gazelle
-
• #1396
where the seat stays join the seat tube looks more like a raleigh
-
• #1397
^ Mine joins in the same way and is deffo Gazelle.

One for any giants out there feeling flush:

I can hardly believe that this is NOS.
For sure it has been repainted and it got new cable stoppers below the top tube. -

Wayne at Pedal Pedlar is a good trader, but that is about 300% overpriced. I bought almost the exact same model - plus Dura Ace wheels, cranks and pedals, Record seatpost, saddle and Hatta Swan headset - for less than half what that frame is priced at.
Don't worry, you're not an arse.
Everybody can forget something or have problems with memories.
Mixure of parts as described by you is nearly original for 1970s and early 1980s Gazelles.
Top end bikes were full Campagnolo Record and more affordable bikes Gran Sport, but before the tsunami caused by the later 105 and 600 series, the mix of Sugino, SR, Sun Tour was good and common.
Just Exage doesn't belong in that list and maybe the Titlist front mech isn't original.
