pj oh dear.
i didn't tell anyone to fuck off.
i am glad people sell their shizzle on here.
PJ, I am not aiming my comments at anyone in particular, certainly not you , so nothing personal/no offense intended ! :)
It is just a pervading attitude, apparent by the fact that is is recognized enough to be a source of humour, if you know what I mean. It is only a joke now that we tell anyone new selling some stuff to fuck off because that is what commonly happens.
Again, nothing about anyone in particular, indeed it is not even just this forum, just a general attitude that stifles small market mentality and plays into the hands of establish retail.
Jesus fucking Christ I am turing in to a Marxist.

Why not just create a sticky thread called 'For Sale/Trade'?
Adding a 'Want To Buy' sticky would also be good as, if you need something really specific, you could ask the forum without starting a new thread.
That way, you needn't look at it unless you choose to open that thread - you only need look in one place if you are in the market for something and we can still all hurl abuse at people that start a whole new thread just to sell a set of rusty toeclips or a Nagasawa frame for an amount roughly equivalent to the GDP of Finland.
Just a thought.

I don't agree, people who turn up out of essentially nowhere aren't selling us this stuff to do us a favor.
They are selling stuff they have bought in order to make a profit.
If they haven't joined in the forum by posting/going on rides or other social events then what the difference between them and some DVD-seller? -

but this guy did go on rides and such no?

I agree with you 100%.
They are not doing us a favour, that is not my point, they are trying to offload some spare pedals or a set of wheels they have come by.
I think we can all agree on the motive.

They are selling stuff they have bought in order to make a profit.Yes !
And I would rather buy some cranks from some bloke who has 6 sets he got cheap in Japan/US rather than funnel my money into a large company like Evans or Wiggle.

Uh, them to join in the forum?
-
• #38
vegansdontneedgears but this guy did go on rides and such no?
Why do you need him to go on rides ?
Have you ever bought anything from Evans, Chainreaction or Wiggle, or indeed from any established retail outlet ?
Did you question whether they had joined you on ride or met you for a drink before you gave your money over to the shareholders of the parent company ?
Then why should the bloke - who picks up 30 pairs of grips and 6 track frames and thought it would be cool to offer them direct to the people who are interested - be held up to this arbitrary moral code ?

|³|MA3K Uh, them to join in the forum?
Why would you want them to join forum ?
(by the way I am not trying to be confrontational on this subject regardless of how I sound, I am genuinely interested in your answer and not looking to prove anyone wrong or right, I find things like people's morality very interesting)

Why would you want them to join forum ?I think this forum is a nice place and through it I have met some interesting people and gone on some cool rides, I would have never done the Dunwich for example.
I have learned some things about bikes and stuff I never knew before. If I like it and feel it is a good environment then why wouldn't I want other people to join in?

I think I understand what you are saying, how does this relate to how you deal with someone who simply wants to get rid of 4 sets of dura ace brakes they got in a warehouse sale ?
I am guessing what you are saying is that you are more comfortable buying parts off people you know and find interesting ?

I don't think a forum is an appropriate venue for unsolicited sales, of course there is a classified section but I think if you are going to try turn a profit of this forum you should at least contribute a bit.
Agree or no, my opinion isn't that hard to understand.

Well done mate. About time someone on here spoke up. God damn forum police. First, there is a filter up in the left corner of the page (albeit not the best). Second, what idiot clicks into a classified thread, only to moan about people selling stuff? No one is forcing you to come in to these threads. Do you people really have this much spare time? Get off your computers and take a ride. It's not a big deal.
