  • i love the idea of ghost bikes. i'll make one for anyone who dies on the road on fgss.

    Let's not wait.

  • Saw it on Saturday morning.

Those Zaffiros look fucking ace !

Slack chain. (To take Tynan's bad taste comment and run with it...)

  • Why not use say a round sticker or transfer stuck onto a spot close to the accident. A bit like the 'Blue Plaques' where famous people have lived. An appropriate design could be chosen, they could be applied at night by a FGSS geurilla army.

    I couldn't help myself.

  • I don't "get" the ghostcycle London website... Apart from that poor bloke who got killed by a coach near Imperial College it all seems to be people with minor injuries having a whinge

Yep, the 'report incident' form asks what YOUR speed was and whether YOU were wearing a helmet etc. Kind of rules out the incidents when somebody dies.

Or why not use a white bicycle

  • less chance of someone trying to steal a sticker and if they did easier to replace.

  • There's one up on the road to Devil's Dyke outside of Brighton (I think the Guardian mentions it). It's been there ages - will get a photo when I can.

I'm all for them (subject to asking relatives etc). anything to help get it through motorist's skulls that they're dangerous!

  • Saw one outside Stoke Newington train station today. Didn't get chance to read it but had a pic of a young girl on it
Haven't seen many in London, which can only be a good thing of course

Check the rider down thread dude...

  • Oh yeah, sorry, never read it 'til now....

  • Did i see a new ghost bike on the corner of kingsland road and whiston road today? that's three on the A10...

  • Yep I saw that yesterday.

I saw this today as well...

  • Still no Ghost Bike on Theobolds / Kingsway. Presumably because permission is sought from the victim's family?

putting one there would be fantastic, as it's where quite a lots of cyclists go by (especially freaklishly reckless cyclist going past red light), methinks it would help cyclists think twice.

  • My wife died on Theobalds Kinglands way. No joke. Just need to post on here 5 times so that I can PM someone about a campaign they are running. I think they are a great idea, anything that raises awareness and hopefully prevents anyone else suffering such a needless and hateful death as my wife can only be a good thing.

    Best wishes for 09.

  • Wildbill. Welcome and as andy.p says, all the very best for 2009.

  • there is one in prague too. however the city does not understand it and it has been removed and replaced twice. what a sad story:/

Bill, very sorry to hear about your loss. Your wife's death was very widely noticed and mourned by people who didn't know her. There are a couple of other threads on here about it.

BTW you can always send VelocityBoy a message to say why you should be allowed to PM before the regular nursery. I can't imagine that he wouldn't understand your reason. See the first post in the Nursery thread for an explanation.

  • @Bill

Sorry for your loss, and hopefully the good wishes and condolences of the forum members will be of some comfort to you.

  • Has anyone "removed" the white bike on Brick Lane advertising some shitty "vintage" shop. I've argued with the staff in there about the appropriateness of it and they insist it's reasonable, despite knowing about ghost bikes (their arguments are stupid: "they don't encourage cycling" - they're not meant to, they are meant to raise awareness; "no one knows what they are" - well that's because cunts co-opt the aesthetic, reducing the impact).

Anyway, if someone wants to move it to an actual ghost bike site or respray it, I think it would be entirely appropriate.

  • My sincere condolences go to any one who has lost a loved one who was riding their bike.

I find the ghost bike thing to be in bad taste. Even the term ghost bike I find inappropriate. If memorials were left everywhere for folk that die there would me no room to move. What about runners, car drivers, motorcyclists that are killed through no fault of their own? Its trite in my opinion.
