  • The longest of long shots but does anyone know anyone in Berlin that owns a Koga Full Pro Track?

Mine arrived safely in Berlin for tomorrow's race, but the seatpost collar didn't arrive with it. It's a proprietary one which means I can't find a replacement and as it stands, can't race.

  • Caught the rad race in the Teirgarten near the column, spotted @Sumo and @Scoot, both too fast for my photos I think!

  • Hope you enjoyed watching it, it was a blast to race.

  • who on this thread actually lives in berlin? I am just finishing up my application for an MA there (potsdam). Hopefully I get in and the UK votes in too, so nervous today!

  • Yeah we did a great effort to get to the front group, 9m30sec it took from the gun :)

  • Yeah, was good to watch! Had hoped to get closer to the finish but got carried away enjoying beers in the park before...

Just about managed to catch you all in some very mediocore photos!

  • General question: who of you who live in Berlin permanentely is riding in the Velodrom sometimes?

As far as I know you can use it for free if you are member of a Berlin cycling club like http://www.velox-berlin.de or http://www.radsport-adw.de (around 100€ per year)

  • can you ride fixed in berlin or will you get ticketed? also, is the crackdown on lights etc still in effect? i got onto my MA there so moving out in the new year!

  • You can ride fixed but you need a front brake.

  • guyz, anybody know of a local berlin fb fixieskidder group or something to post some ads? would want to avoid posting the least worthwhile stuff to the good people of lfgss because pickup is just easier. many thanks in advance!

  • rad. just saw this, will take all my bikes out there.

  • Hi. Apologies if the wrong thread for this but..... I'm headed to Berlin this weekend with the gf and was hoping to get some bikes for 3-4 days to explore. Does anyone know if there's anywhere that will rent a pair of half decent bikes (basically something better than the big old heavy rental chuggers)? The only thing I could find on google is "closed until 2017"! Much appreciated!

  • Hey @Kito Guess its mainly rental chuggers. And theres http://www.bikesurf.org/berlin/bikes. But thats also not that exciting.
Would maybe offer you one of mine, but theres maintenance build up all over my stable...
http://www.fahrradstation.com/fahrradstation.php/cat/127/title/Fahrradflotte_Galerie looks better than most tourist rentals.

  • Hey @c.h.e. thanks for the tips - bikesurf looks pretty limited but the other place could work. Nice one.

  • @rodolfo you ever find any? im super surprised by the lack of fixed gear action here....

  • How many forumungers are Berlin-based these days?

Eyeing a move there in March if the stars align, so would welcome tips on apartment finding and good bits to live for good proximity to best cycle routes out of the city for starters! Had a look at W-G Gesucht and it's certainly more expensive than it was the last time I looked 7 years ago O_o

  • ¿Vamos a Copenhague no?

  • Find me a (paid) internship in Landscape Architecture where I don't need to speak Danish and I'm there! In Germany already so makes more sense to stay here while I finish my masters-been stuck out in the sticks though so looking forward to moving

  • looking fwd to have you here grubz! got your pm, will respond in a bit.
housing prices have indeed gone through the roof, damn forrins coming here and being used to pay through the nose..
ill keep an eye and ear around, but dont hold your hopes up.. even when I moved back in 2012 I had to move 4 times in 6 months.
dont have a spare room either because thats the one I live in and I dont look fwd to spooning an internet stranger...
    got an internship already?

  • edit: a male internet stranger mind, but lets not go there.

  • Not got an internship yet-I want to do an intensive German course for a couple of months and do my thesis, some portfolio etc at the same time to get it out the way, then we'll see if anyone has any interest in actually hiring a half-crazed Scotsman...

Could possibly find a room in student housing if it's going to be a nightmare but would rather not... Or I could just go somewhere cheaper like Dresden but I always overthink these things it seems!

Anyway-I appreciate and share your wariness of spooning male strangers so that wouldn't be my desired solution either ;)

Joined a couple of FB groups for finding flat and it's obvious why rents have gone to shit. So many international douchebags (like me, except less stingy I guess...)

  • I am here. Rents are indeed crazy. The influx of not only people but also capital looking for investment opportunities is obvious. And the fact that the city sold thousands of flats ten years ago. Also a lot of social housing is loosing that status right now. Now all we need is a Google Campus here in Kreuzberg and it will be great.

Has to be said though that its still pretty focused on Mitte and the hip places eg Neukölln. If you look a bit less central (which Neukölln might also mean because the Bezirke are huge and not all of Neukölln is full of tourists and pale ale but still a desperate and poor place) that might help.

For cycling there are the obvious city spots Tempelhofer Feld (going in circles around the airfield) and Grunewald Runde (circles around the city forest).

I am in Kreuzberg, so I tend to go south/southeast if I go riding. Britz-Buckowgoing south is nice using parts of mauerweg. I tend to go around Rangsdorfer See then. Kiefholzer Strasse is a long straight that takes you eats towards Müggelsee which has nice bike roads in the woods and then you go south to Königs Wusterhausen.
Further out one of my favourites is going to Märkische Schweiz. It has actual up and downhill for maybe 5 minutes!
