Off to berlin tomorrow. Any tips for good things to do? No bike but on the lookout for some top quality techno.

Recordshop wise you should check out Hardwax, of course. Recordloft on Adalbertstrasse is also pretty decent for second hand records, bit of a crate diggers paradise. Spacehall is meant to be ok too. The Staalplaat records shop is also in Berlin, but does more weirder stuff. Clubwise it depends when you're there 'til?
http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?571374 - this on Thursday looks like a belter of a party.

you still there, Rusty? I've no idea about techno, but a kebab (Berlin is well stocked with excellent kebab shops / restaurants due to the large Turkish population) a visit to the open air Jewish Memorial and a sauna come with the Alkali seal of approval.

I'll be in Berlin July time and I've read a lot of articles regarding the crackdown on not only brakeless fixies but also bikes with no pedal/spoke reflectors by the German police. These are all dated 09/10 though when the fixie hype was at its prime...have they relaxed at all?

I'm going for 4 days soon, can you buy a multiday travel card fir trains and tubes?
-
• #584
Cheers!
€37.50 for 5 days, so about £33? Not awful. -

The 7 day AB ticket for €28.80 might be better value if you don't need the museum entry etc. with the Welcome Card.
If you're flying to/from Schönefeld you will need an Anschlussticket for Zone C as well but it should still be cheaper. Then you can sell it for €5 as a cheap 2 day ticket to some tourists at the queue for the machine when you leave, and get some of your money back.

Does someone know any good place to rent some better bikes than the usual Amsterdam bikes? Found HelloWorldBerlin few months ago but now their websites tells they've shut down the rental business.

I think the Freitag shop rents out 'fixies', there's also somewhere that rents out vintage road and track bikes, which you will probably find in this thread by searching.

Oh that was HelloWorldBerlin, sorry.
I guess a company with a name that terrible just couldn't stay solvent.

Radkom off Kurfurstendamm used to rent some nice bikes, rented a Cannondale Rush of them for the weekend a couple years ago while they fixed my bike, I think they might of moved or have another shop near Charlottenberg S Bahn

Hello,
I'm planing on visiting Berlin in a couple of days and I'm bringing my bike with me.
What's the situation with riding brake less there? Could someone say is it still a big problem to ride with no caliper on your front fork?
Hope to hear something soon.
Thank you! -

better not go brakeless
-
• #598
^ That. They're on it when it comes to brakless here...
Also, if anyone wants to join our regular Sunday ride, it'd be great to have some LFGSS-ers come along. We have a little 'club', you can sign up here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/247034418828236/
Rides between 50-80k out of Berlin, mixture of single/fixed and geared. We're a very friendly bunch and we're looking for more people to ride with, so please do get involved, and send me a message if you want more details. Berlin visitors welcome too!
Cheers

But do they check your brakes if they stop you?
As I'm going to put some fake brakes on front fork: -

How HHSB is your whip? Because they're savvy enough to recognise a type when they see it.
i.e IMHO Far less likely to stop someone riding gently on an old Mercian Path frame that happens to be brakeless as they are some dude in a Brooklyn cap slaloming through traffic on a LOW with a spok and a disc. Also: don't run red lights. People will shout at you. Including the police. Other than that: enjoy! It's a great city for cycling, despite all this doom-mongering.
