I'll be in Berlin next week. Yesssss.
Am staying on Warschauer Platz 6 - east of Kreuzberg.
Any bar/food/market/art/fun/concrete/music/architecture related recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
well you're right there!
either walk the warschauer str. north and the any of the next streets after the bridge to the right (Friedrichshain)
...or go south across the Oberbaum Brücke and walk any random direction. (Kreuzberg)
tourist route: along the eastside gallery to alexanderplatz, unter den linden, etc. -

Architecture stuff:
Walk from Alexanderplatz to Frankfurter Tor along Karl-Marx-Allee. 1950s Stalinist architecture, symmetrical for most of the street, with a couple of modernist Bauhaus-type gems in between, lots of them hidden behind poplar trees. Kino International, Hans Scharoun's Laubenganghaus and Cafe Moskau in particular. Then you finish the walk in Friedrichshain, where there's loads of food and shops.Bruno Taut and Martin Wagner's Horseshoe Estate in Britz, a horse shoe shaped estate from the Weimar era
Onkel-Toms-Hütte in the south west, another huge estate built on liberal-socialist principles
Waldsiedlung, the traditionalist Nazi answer to the above, with thatched cottages for privileged SS members' families
Bauhaus Museum!

Waldsiedlung, the traditionalist Nazi answer to the above, with thatched cottages for privileged SS members' families
the place I think you mean wasn't build for or by nazis.
it was built by the SED (east german socialist party) for high ranking politicians like Erich Honecker. -

Waldsiedlung Wandlitz, north of Berlin was Honecker's little enclave, after the high-ranking SED members moved from Majowski-Ring in Pankow. This is also worth a visit, and has a really good little visitor centre with bilingual displays all about it. It's also near the other Sowjetisches Ehrenmal, which is even more hidden than the one in Treptower Park.
Waldsiedlung Krumme Lanke, near Onkel-Toms-Hütte, is the one I mentioned.
So I should have been more clear, but we're both right

Thanks tommmmmmmmmmmmmm and schnitter. All sounds fascinating.
You should go and see the Soviet architecture show at the RA, sounds like you'd enjoy it. I went today, very very good.

There is a good flea market on Sundays in Mauer Park, you should go there!
A friend recommened a bar called Das Gift which is part owned by Barry from Mogwai in the Neukölln district, I've not been myself but I trust him!

Also, Mauerpark has Bearpit karaoke, although it might be a bit cold for that now.
I would also recommend Café Antipodes on Fehrbelliner Str for excellent coffee.
And Dolores. Be still, my beating heart.

Oh yeah I've been to the amazing flea market! But unfortunately only there Tues to Fri, so won't get a chance this time.
Excellent coffee is always a good tip, thanks!

I stayed in the Adina Hackescher mkt for over a year. It's nice.

I spent a weekend at the Hotel De Rome, on Babelplatz (where they burned all the books) back in 2009.
It was awesome. Very nice hotel, with a great location. It ain't cheap though.
Would reccomend if you're looking to splash out on something.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'm checking them all out at the moment and they all seem to be quite pricey!
Can anyone recommend anything a bit cheaper? Or even just 'the best' area to stay in, as I'll probabaly spend most of the time out of the hotel anyway :)

I stayed here recently, cheap, nice enough, in trendy Prenzlauer Berg area, tram outside only 3 stops to Alexanderplatz....24 hour reception, laid back and friendly
http://www.alex-hotel.de/english/
It says E79 on price list, but try booking...we paid E 69 for two and think it's cheaper for one...prices include breakfast...
Aside form that if all you're after is a somewhere to sleep there are loads of Etap / Ibis type hotels that are much cheaper than London prices www.accorhotel.com
