I Pilgrims way ride would be a good one actually, a nice route.

I love it.

Yeah, good road surface, quite nice view before you reach the hairpin, and then tree covered. I didn't think it was that bad, as it cuts a very diagonal path across the gradient.
Big ring climb ;)
Same here, I stayed seated for the whole climb too....
Yep, good view. You can see the radio mast over at the top of Wrotham Hill. Saying that, you can see it on the M25 when you're about 20 miles away.
Pilgrims Way ride is a good idea Tommy. Would take some planning though, there are quite a few sections around here that are just bridleways.

I still think that Canonbie Road is the steepest road in London, it's very short but way steeper than anything else I've been up.

Is there no way of knowing for a fact though?
Somewhere there must be a list of gradients for all London's hills. -

Canonbie Road has an 18% sign at the Honor Oak Road end.

Click on left side map to make route over hill. Click on right side "show elevation data" and then "gradient". Can't tell how accurate it is tho.
Both that road in the post above by honor oak and the road behind sainsburys forest hill came in at 13s, hill house road by streatham common was only an 11.
edit - college road dulwich all under 10

I mostly ride with a freewheel and front brake, keep meaning to ride fixed more but never get around to it as I dislike changing stuff that could mess up my ride to work and make me late, with any luck tho soon I will sell my beach cruiser and get the space to have another 700c single speed and leave one of them fixed and one freewheel. I live south so don't do loads north. Have some friends who live just off the green lanes and another in hornsy so have done some of the hills that way but couldn't name them.

freewheel and front brake is wise, especially if you cycle to work. your beach cruiser could be great fun in this 27 june's critical mass but if you sell it and make 1 fixie you will have even more fun, will you go? and where do you live in south?

Not sure it matters where I live?

I drafted this rout yesterday as a little jaunt around the south hills. Anything tougher in the area would be a welcome addition.
I rather like college road(the one with the toll booth). Not much traffic and a long hill with a couple of steep bits. From my way I do that then a loop or two around crystal palace park(in or put both hilly) and then come back down farquah road. I need to get my head around the courses thing so will have a play with it later and make you something.

Nightingale lane by richmond park gate. short but very steep!!
Just checked it out, put my old commute to shame (Church Road near Wimbledon Championship), 90ft of climbing in 0.24km.

^^ Awesome Clockwise. In fact just looking at the draft map, I had neglected to include Crystal Palace Park Road. Updated now.

Wiki map and info on London Hills. Could there be a forum cycle in this? (probably already is!)

This is my usual quick hills loop, does Swains, the Alley Pally loop, Shepard's Hill and then pop's you back on the top of Highgate to do some repeats around there when you've warmed up. It's nice, nice hills but far enough apart from each other to give it some proper beans.

That's my neck of the woods Clockwise, sometimes do college road, up Fountain Drive down Crystal Palace Park Rd, along the Penge High St, Right at the lights, along Croydon Rd, Up Anerley Hill, round the triangle and then now Gipsy Hill.

I'm over in streatham hill so for me it's up abcd roads then down to tulse hill then up into dulwich then up college road around and back again. Or the other way is up the abcd roads then out and up leigham court road over crown point and onward.

Am currently living north and do reps of swains and Highgate west hill before work.
Am looking for a couple of replacement ramps near Herne hill / crystal palace for an imminent move south... Got some ideas from the above like central hill and anerley, any more ideas? Is gypsy hill good? Can't find a strava segment

Gipsy Hill, Sydenham Hill (four directions to choose from), College road/Fountain Drive, Eliot Bank, etc. Lots of options around there, tbh.

You can find some good routes around the back of the Horniman, including the fairly well known Canonbie - however Ringmore Rise is quite nice as it's a bit shallower, then there's Westwood Park if you want a bit more of a ramp. Easy enough to plot a route around there that'll get a decent amount of elevation in your legs.
