  • Cool Pip. 8-9 would be good. An early start is ideal
^^ OMG that is seriously steep. Where the hell is that?

It's in Ramsbottom, Lancs. No worse than the top of the Catford, but the course is longer, and there's a semi-steep section right at the bottom too.

  • Anerley Hill is a real killer. Super busy too so I always think that I'm going to get clipped by a car when I'm zig zagging up it in agony.

Forest Hill Road heading from Peckham Rye to Honor Oak Park is a beast too.

  • The one that leads up to Sydenham rd from Lordship. It's called Kirkdale i think.
    A real ballbuster.

  • annerly hill is bad, primarily because the only time i ride it is at the end of a 75 miler.

I know that feeling - and I always get coerced into racing up it :(

  • there is a relatively short 350m evil steep hill next to parliament hill, called tanza rd, that just ramps up and up!

  • Hazellville Road leading up to Hornsy lane is a nightmare. Really short but very steep with big speed bumps and a read surface that you need suspention for.

-rep yet again for nasty spelling. Sorry, road surface.

You're probably well acquainted with those short sharp shitty climbs off the Pilgrims Way near Biggin Hill. I swear that parts of Sundridge Hill and Brasted Hill are actually vertical.

You don't ride a BJ - black with red wheels do you?

No, I that is Benanza. I ride a Pink Gotti.

  • I spent some time back in the mother land. there are some of the finest climbs, amazing scenery and hairy arse drops I have been down. for those that are interested the sportiv is next April

yep, love 'em. those are hills.

  • Name gives it away there

I should get to North drinks! it falls on the night i play football but i'll aim to get their early
I am with you on Hazelville, its got a sharp rise with shit track quality. but its short enough to sprint it out.

  • yep, love 'em. those are hills.

Nasty fuckers. I used to live 1 mile due south of Brasted Hill. The bastard. Hogtrough Hill is worse, IMHO. But at least there's a view at the top.

EDIT: Bikely tells me otherwise, but I know that Hogtrough is worse.

  • Telegraphy hill, pepys road are the same I think. They are generally okay but there's one amongst that stretch thats pretty bad.

The Hills from Lewisham Honor Oak Park, near Compton cycles was the first hill I ever had to get off and push on, but that was also my first time riding fixed.

    Peace

Same (only for me it's at the end of a paltry 30 miler). Also have to get up the other side, to the top of College Road from the station at the bottom, with zero warm up (though it's clearly not as impossible as I first thought because I managed it in heels on my road bike last week.)

Forgot about Hogtrough. That is a nice view at the top. Tough call but I reckon that Sundridge is worse. Might have to go down there at the weekend to see if I'm remembering correctly. I usually give them a miss these days and head back into town via Star Hill Road. Tough but a more sensible gradient.

Either way, the best thing about those three is that there's generally nothing else on them apart from me and the bike. Noone else to witness the silent shame of me thinking that I'm moving forward but looking like I'm doing a trackstand.

  • Guy's was the team we played. We lost.

Which Guy's team were you playing against? I may have been on the opposition..

  • Arkwright Road which meets Fitzjohns Ave coming from Finchley Road. Same elevation but shorter. I couldn't believe I made it.

If you use Gmaps and go to the My Maps tab you can add "Elevation contours" and the "distance measurement" maps to grab those gradients.

A shade over to the west from Westerham, there's Titsey Hill, it's a beauty. You can see it on the approach from miles away, kicks up to 16% in the lower section then goes on for a good K or more at a fairly tough and constant gradient. If I'm feeling particularly saucy I do a loop down into Kent and get up it on 48/16 before work. Endorphins for breakfast and you can take on anything.

  • Yeah, a nice climb, although the road surface isn't up to much.

  • there's two threads here - one about london's toughest inclines/molehills and one about greater london's toughest climbs/hills...

I'll see you those 2 hills, and raise you a Chalkpit Lane, up out of Oxted, past the quarry.

    3rds I think.
